Nice surprise yesterday. Another video from that @thecrookedhours.bandcamp.com album I recently worked on. Simple concept but a great performance. Such a diverse record! Some of the instrumentals are poles apart from this.

Think we managed to scare the other Halloween quiz participants to death by getting 29/30 on the βName the serial killerβ picture round. A point for the full name and a point for correctly stating whether they were dead or alive.

As a purely technical contributor, I think I can say with some objectivity that it IS brilliant and you will really enjoy it. Iβll post any updates I get from them on here and Instagram. Thanks again!

Thank you, Jon. Theyβve made a really great record. It was a pleasure to play a small part bringing it all together.

For my part, I will probably disappear back into semi-retirement. I have no interest in making music for the sake of it these days. At the end of it though, it was simply a great privilege to be involved in such a vibrant creative project.

It's certainly not a record that trades in the mawkishness of hauntology. There's optimism, beauty and an infectious, manic energy to it. Any reasonably adjusted listener should find passages to swoon over and passages that scare them shitless, just like those films that inspired it.

It harks back to 60s/70s horror films but never descends into lazy pastiche. At least 15 people contributed, creating a wonderfully diverse record with a palpable "weight". There are songs, instrumentals and spoken word pieces. It packs more into 22 minutes than most other albums manage in 60.

Earlier this year, I surprised myself by agreeing to mix a new album for an old friend. I have made no music whatsoever for the last 11 years. However, the invitation to lose myself in this spooky soundworld proved impossible to resist. youtu.be/wReth2dt-i4?...

Pinhead as interstellar Spider-Man sounds amazing! Thank you, I will keep an eye out for those versions!

Iβm sure Iβll enjoy seeing the Northern Lights but thatβs only an incidental thing; Iβm really going for the freezing temperatures and the complete absence of sunlight.

Researching a trip to Northern Norway in December and chanced across the word βMΓΈrketidβ. βDark timeβ or polar night. Something about being from the Midlands seems to have given me a need to seek out extremities of place.

I thought Hellraiser in space was going to be awful but it was quite fun really. Doug Bradley clearly having a grand old time.

There is nothing cozy about the sound in the 1963 Haunting. I found it very hard to get to sleep for days after I first watched it; I kept expecting that terrifying crashing to strike up in my house at any moment.

I was captivated by his stories of the caretaker and the unofficial occupants and the former owner. So refreshing (and strangely moving) compared to the usual urbex site. Thanks so much for sharing.

Ten Empty Rooms remains the best thing Iβve read in a long time, Ray. I worked in property for several years in the late 90s and your work fills me with equal parts dread and nostalgia every time I re-read it. Truly a wonderful piece of writing.

Iβll take Endjoy! Haha! It will accompany me on a trip to northern Norway in December. It will be interesting to see which is darker: my surroundings or the book.

Somehow I have to resist the temptation to dive straight into this. I am determined to save it for a long overseas journey that Iβm making in December. If I heard the @backlisted.bsky.social podcast correctly, I ultimately have you to thank for the recommendation @andrewmale.bsky.social
