How much are MPD fees for the Bachmans location in a parking lot compared to the Uptown Location that had street closures? Same question for Open Streets too. I remember years ago that was one of the highest parts of the Open Streets budget. This would be interesting data to find out.

This is the best discussion on transit funding I have ever read. All MSP urbanists who have followed the β€˜how can we improve Met Council’ debate should read this.

I hate that one of my kids is at camp all week sleeping in a tent during an air quality alert. I did not send along masks and potable air purifiers but maybe I should in the future...

Signature Bank’s Rent-Stabilized Loan Buyers File Foreclosures Community Stabilization Partners filed 6 foreclosures against Madison Realty Capital, targeting 8 rent-stabilized buildings in NYC.

If you want more housing to be built, that generally involves some getting a loan from a bank. And banks don’t like rent control. Why? Because the 2019 NYC rent control law change is resulting in a lot of distressed properties that can’t pay back their loans. www.credaily.com/briefs/signa...

The 🚲 Bryant hat. Nicely paired with Linden Hills shirt.

Ditto. We had bikes stolen from a locked bike shed (with steel doors), our front porch, plus a shared garage. I bought a nice replacement bike recently but now don’t want to ride anywhere it might be stolen.

Laminated photos of the creeping bellflower’s quad carrot root structure would be helpful. It’s what makes it so hard to get rid of! And yes, I’ve dug it out successfully, only for it to return as new seeds make new plants.

Maybe the Starbucks store innovation team were rewatching some old Friends episodes for inspiration? Central Perk did have a super comfy couch after all.

Affordable projects at 30% AMI all have rental subsidies and no mortgage in MSP. 30% rents don’t cover operating expenses. Most 30% projects are set up for formerly homeless people so they are prioritized for rental assistance.

For some numbers : undocumented people account for 10% of the construction labor force and Trump's deportations could result in a loss of roughly 720,000 construction workers at a time when the industry is short about 275,000 workers

Wonder that too. There was a lot more coverage on 2016 and 2020 election interference. 2024? Almost nothing. Like, did the previous actors just *quit* in 2024? What are we missing?

I discovered cranial sacral therapy and it’s life changing. If my kids can’t sleep, I pull their ears out and then put pressure on the base of their neck with 2 fingers. They fall asleep within 20-30 min. It’s super relaxing.

My husband talked to staff at the Uptown Cub last month about their lack of stuff on the shelves. Apparently their GM is pretty bad. Staff weren’t happy.

Triplexes only work in Mpls if the 3rd unit is in the basement so then there are 3 floors that are about 1200-1350sf which is just big enough for 3 3BR 2 BA units.

I’m buying my kids a map to look at in the backseat of the car this summer so they learn how to read a map.
I kept a road atlas on the side of the passenger seat for years until I got a smartphone. I also drew little maps with key streets after looking directions up online.

Flush nailed windows look terrible. How do we get out of this practice? On a commercial building, there was a retrofit 10 years ago where inset windows were replaced with flush windows and it looked worse afterward. Why do that?

Affordable housing gap funding politics: if each funding source is spread across 5 projects with 100 units, it β€˜helps fund 500 units’. Funding the whole gap for 1 project would be more efficient but then it only β€˜helps fund 100 units.’

DC streetcar was so poorly designed:
β€”No dedicated lanes & thus frequently obstructed by traffic
β€”No connection to Metro or even the front of Union Station
β€”No enforced signal priority, slowing trains
β€”No real effort to improve the streetscape
β€”Too many stops (8 stations/2.4 mi)

Transit went from being led by highway engineers who created fast transit to lots of park & ride destinations to led by economic developers who located transit near lots of destinations but didn’t make it fast enough to be useful.

Townie - Electra Bikes The Electra Townie sets the standard in comfort and control, making it the perfect ride-around-town bike.

I got an Electra Townie last summer to replace my Electra Amsterdam that was stolen. Hoigaards in SLP had a good selection and you can ride them on their inside track. Electra is owned by Trek now. electra.trekbikes.com/us/en_US/bik...
