Focusing on bats and newts is a cynical attempt to reframe nature as nothing more than a triviality

But nature is our life support system

Conservation isn't just about helping other species - it's also about maintaining the conditions that allow us to thrive

There's a word for the EU's inaction over Gaza: racism | Shada Islam Europe frames the suffering of Palestinians in Gaza as a humanitarian crisis rather than a deliberate political choice. There will be a moral reckoning, says Shada Islam, a commentator on EU affairs

Very powerful from @simplyshada.bsky.social :
“Europe’s political & moral paralysis over Gaza is intimately linked to the structural racism & violence which so many black, brown & Muslim Europeans face every day”. There’s no other explanation why so many levers & sanctions remain shockingly unused👇

The story of solar energy development in Spain reveals something important about our current crisis and how to resolve it.

Spain has achieved a massive increase in solar capacity in recent years, outpacing the rest of the EU.

WA’s ‘longest and most intense’ marine heatwave killed coral across 1,500km stretch Scientists shocked by bleaching event that hit reefs from the world heritage-listed Ningaloo to the remote Ashmore Reef

Corals killed across a 1,500 km stretch of West Australia

"The marine heatwave in WA coincided with the most widespread global bleaching event on record that started in January 2023 & is ongoing. More than 80% of the planet’s reefs have seen heat stress high enough to cause corals to bleach."

Child Amputees, Aid Massacres, Mass Starvation—the Israeli War Crimes NYT Covers Less than Mamdani and 'Globalize the Intifada' Theoretical, third order, speculative violence must be condemned while actual, real world mass violence, that actually exists in reality, is seen as normal and unworthy of sustained coverage.

In the past month NYT has published 32 articles that mention Mamdani and “globalize the intifada", 13 that mention Israel's fake "aid" agency that's killed 800+, 5 on Israel's starvation campaign and two that mention, in passing, child amputees in Gaza. I argue this is makes no sense and is depraved

Interesting detail: he didn't like the immigration plan HIS ministers came up with.

Like all populist politicians, he makes completely unrealistic (contradictory and inconsistent) promises, and when they (predictably) can't be implemented, he blames others, even when he is almost 100% in power.

This feels a bit concerning from (Reform-run) Kent council officials (who should be non-political)

How will they work with 'DOGE'? What access will these unelected Reform bods be given to the council, its facilities, and non-public information?

Lots of questions need answering

An answer to Reform’s call for more expensive energy Why are Reform UK so keen to push up energy prices, blocking the cheapest sources of energy, and giving control to international markets?

Reform UK claim to back working people, but want to block renewables wherever they gain power. That means higher bills and more reliance on global gas markets. Why? To keep fossil fuel giants in charge | Prof Richard Murphy

10 times Nigel Farage failed working people

He wants to scrap the NHS and make working people pay more, by moving to an ‘insurance-based system of healthcare’.
Farage has been taking advice from Liz Truss, whose mini-budget crashed the economy and sent mortgages spiralling for working people. He praised her disastrous mini-budget as ‘the best Conservative budget since 1986’.

Called for car workers to lose their jobs saying British success story Jaguar Land Rover ‘deserve’ to go bust.

Nigel Farage and Reform voted against the biggest expansion of workers’ rights in decades.

Reform’s manifesto last summer promised nearly £90bn in tax cuts, but included no detail on how to pay for them. Reform have no plan beyond crashing the economy and leaving working people to pick up the tab.

Farage’s Party oppose Labour’s plans to give more money to schools.

Ignores his constituents in Clacton in favour of at least 8 trips to the USA since the election and more than 800 hours of non-MP work.

Farage admires Putin and wants to ban Ukraine flags on townhalls. He thinks the EU and Nato provoked Russia’s illegal invasion of Ukraine, which has pushed up energy prices and hit working people's pockets hard.

Reform’s ideological opposition to secure, home grown energy has put local investment and jobs at risk. In Lincolnshire, for instance, secure energy technology has added nearly £1bn and more than 12,000 jobs to the local economy.

Farage’s backwards views on maternity pay will affect working mums. He tweeted that “the European Parliament, in their foolishness, have voted for increased maternity pay. I'm off for a drink.”
