Sure id love to have a general strike over impeachment or a reorganization of the supreme court but whats on offer is a rejection of secret police executing people in Minneapolis so that’s probably worth going on strike about

a general strike demonstrates the power of the working class, and uses that power as an instrument in politics - it’s not been seen in our lifetimes, nor has that threat been felt by the elites - “aw I don’t think it will work” - okay then vote or something ? What’s the point of voicing doubt here?

Benton School was one of the oldest public schools in St. Louis. It moved to Kingshighway in 1893 as a 4-room schoolhouse and by 1896 was operating as a 3-story, 12-room school. In 1953, it became a Black school and you can guess its fate.

last thing: the most powerful labor sector in the United States in terms of strike power is delivery drivers, followed by warehouse workers — an amazon-based wildcat strike is sort of the holy grail then, when amazon workers start it out, and are followed by food workers, hospitality, healthcare etc

another aspect is that a general strike has no end date — however many days it can rack up is all profit — a 1 day general strike is great, a 2 day strike would radically alter the American political landscape, 3 days would transform politics as we know it

this is a problem because of how spread out everything is in modern urban areas, and as others have point out, small businesses are easier to pressure than Wells Fargo and Boeing, but the bigger employers should be the target
