The bottle on its side, opening out to show us the glazed inner lip. we're closer to the cups as well, stacked foot-to-foot, with my m stamp glazed white in relief - and aligned to create a sense of mirroring

I worked college summers on electrical crew. Even then, the staff electrician who trained me was just vibe wiring his way through dorms. We'd come behind & fix his work.

The attitude isn't new, but I never expected hype for incompetence. I hope there's always work for people who do the fixing.

A tall cup with a narrow base to fit 30oz into your cup holder I guess, but even larger and made of black clay still wet off the wheel - and next to it a sphere vase maybe 3 times as wide and half the height, not a perfect round, but not bad either, with just a bit of a rim at the opening.

from above, a dark circle the hole of the cup, then concentric shadow on black clay circles for the sphere opening from above. Just circles stacked on a wooden board.

I can say "I spent some time in the studio for my birthday" but the truth is I spend some time in there most days now.

Was planning to practice that sphere a few times, but someone had a Stanley, so I took measurements and gave it a shot. (+14% for shrinkage)

as a child, I always wanted to be older. And I've been achieving that goal pretty consistently. I've put in my hours. Every year, I get farther than I did the year before.

It's not surprising, I also get frustrated learning new things - but as someone who soaks up emotions, it's the part of teaching pottery i wasn't prepared for. I feel like the first lesson needs to be stopping the wheel to breathe.

The bottom of the vase is a shiny black orb on a shallow pedestal, with uneven grooves carved around the surface. up top, slabs of torn clay explode out in satin-semi-gloss red and yellow leaves or pedals that almost form a flower, or almost the flared neck of a vase. There is nothing that makes the two parts cohere in a single piece.

I made this strange turnip-like vase a couple months back, but never got around to photos. Maybe I'll revisit the concept with a bit more finesse at some point.

I bet the existing apps would meet all my needs if I tried them. It's just that I *also* make websites & so I imagine something open source, not a subscription, no data lock-in, and I could change it myself when I want new features. 😅

I've been tracking my pottery projects in a spreadsheet, but i keep thinking of better ways.

There are a few apps available, but all of them (so far) were Not Invented Here, and that bugs me. Do better!

Seems hard to track in Obsidian. Maybe coda?

probably none. I'm not using shadow-dom as a proxy for scope, but as a proxy for templating. I guess I could handle templating in JS, inject elements in the light dom, then use scoped styles? but scope is not the main barrier keeping me from doing that. the whole process feels more complicated.
