ChatGPT Is Everywhere — Why Aren't We Talking About Its Environmental Costs? One estimate found that a single ChatGPT search uses 10 times the energy of a normal Google search.

"You can no longer make students do the reading or the writing. So what’s left? Only this: give them work they want to do. And help them want to do it. What, again, is education? The non-coercive rearranging of desire." (Emphasis in original)

Seriously, the rational thing to do with LLMs would have been "that's cool, come back when you have a real application for this that justifies the cost and you've made it more energy efficient." We don't have to dump billions into every new computer knickknack! We can have higher standards!!
