100% I'm with you. The tech is not there yet for widespread adoption. For one it's so _magical_ it makes troubleshooting impossible.

Greg Egan – encyklopediafantastyki.pl

If I have any followers in Polish SF fandom with a few minutes to spare, do you feel like pointing out to the owners of this site that the photograph they grabbed at random off the web of Professor Gregory Kenneth Egan, retired, of Monash Uni, is not me?

Loved Nosferatu and found Nicholas Hoult to have done an excellent job looking tormented all the way through.

The opening sequence of this anime was a pivotal moment in my journey towards falling in love with programming (and scifi!), probably only comparable to the excitement of receiving my first computer. I had been looking for it for ages!

An old-school yet impossibly cool book cover for The Geometry of Art and Life by Matila Ghyka. With its vintage typography and geometric motif, it looks like something you’d find in a 1930s scientist’s libraryβ€”right next to the blueprint for a time machine.

Left: A striking woodcut of a cathedral by Lyonel Feininger, where sharp geometric lines capture the spiritual grandeur of Gothic architecture. Right: A 1923 Bauhaus exhibition poster, proving that even triangles and circles can look trendy.

Despite its mathematical depth, the book is written for the curious mind, blending poetic insights with scientific rigor.

Which is one of the reasons his ideas inspired a generation of creatives, from Bauhaus designers to architects seeking harmony between form and function.

An intricate geometric blueprint of a Gothic cathedral, showcasing the precise use of circles, triangles, and symmetry to create a structure both mathematically sound and visually stunning. Behind the soaring spires and awe-inspiring arches lies a masterclass in engineering.

Written in the 1940s, the book was ahead of its time in linking science, math, and art. Ghyka anticipated themes that are now central to design, architecture, and even technology.

Ghyka highlights how the Fibonacci sequence governs the branching of trees, the arrangement of leaves, and even the human body. It’s not just theoreticalβ€”it’s the blueprint of life.

Top: A Greek stamnos vase dissected with harmonic analysis, proving that even ancient potters were low-key mathematicians. Bottom: The elegant kantharos, where geometry meets ancient wine-drinking aesthetics. Who knew sipping wine could involve this much math?

Ghyka was a passionate advocate for the Golden Ratio, showing how this divine proportion appears everywhere, from seashells and sunflowers to Renaissance masterpieces and modern design.

The book argues that mathematics, particularly geometry, is the hidden language of beauty that connects nature, art, and human creativity. From the spirals of galaxies to the proportions of the Parthenon, Ghyka reveals the mathematical codes behind aesthetics.

Matila Ghyka, looking every bit the regal mathematician-prince he was. Draped in medals and dressed to impress, he seems ready to discuss the secrets of the universeβ€”or maybe just conquer your bookshelf. Who else could bridge the gap between royal formality and the poetic elegance of the Golden Ratio?

Who else could bridge the gap between royal formality and the poetic elegance of the Golden Ratio?

First of all, Matila Ghyka, the author, was a Romanian prince, naval officer, diplomat, and mathematician! A true jack-of-all-trades who moved effortlessly between aristocracy and academia, science and art.

IΒ want to tell you about one of my favorite books: The Geometry of Art and Life.

Why? Because (1) it’s written by a prince (!!) and (2) it explores one of my favorite topics: the magical space where math, science, and creativity meet.

Here’s why it’s a must-read: 🧡

The AI Reporter That Took My Old Job Just Got Fired A local newspaper in Hawaii experimented with AI-generated presenters to engage and boost its readership. After two months, the bots have been shelved.

Cut James and Rose (the AI reporters!) some slack, okay? It’s tough out here in tech for everyone. They tried their best at a Hawaiian news station, but 2 months in, it’s back to the job market. Mispronunciations and no ad sales... even robots have rough days.
