If Erin McClelland had won the treasurer race in PA in 2024 while all other results stay the same, I would seriously consider the idea that Gaza policy cost Harris the election. But she did not win.

Nope! That’s wrong. She started off her campaign breaking with Obama to the left on issue after issue before sanders was even a threat.

He’s right though! At least if we restrict ourselves to domestic policy. On foreign policy in 08, even ignoring Iraq, Obama was more dovish, but on domestic policy 08 was like 16 & 20—the more moderate candidate defeated the more progressive candidate. (Smaller gap between them than in 16 or 20)

Hillary in 2016 was WAY more left than Obama 08 or 12 on basically every domestic issue. Harris 24 though it is fair to say she was, in aggregate, a shift to the right compared to Biden 2020.

I voted for Hillary in 2008 (& then Sanders in ‘16 & ‘20) for exactly this reason! Obama legitimately campaigned as more of a dove, but he was also clearly the economically
moderate candidate in aggregate!

I want Pritzker to humiliate him publicly in multiple debates. I think worrying about ‘28 before ‘26 is done is silly…. save for the fact I think it really worthwhile to kill a Newsom candidacy ASAP

we will get much better policy. It won’t be nearly as lefty policy as I want probably , but it will be much, much better.

Our institutions are so bad at translating popular will into legislation/need to be fundamentally reformed that it‘s easy to mistake the real hunger for left-liberal & progressive policy for leftism per se. But the radicalism we need most is institutional reform and once that happens
