So...this is actually the second book I have illustrated before it was written. Doug and I had an outline from @tomsnig.bsky.social and @jsuretteacheson.bsky.social and it was brilliant and cool and so very evocative, so we (mostly Doug) picked the illustration beats, one from each outline section.

I think I want to talk a lot about Nira this week as it is apparently an ongoing adventure and it's an amazing story.
Anyway, we have to start with Kaw, because Kaw is the First drawing I did for the project and also, Kaw.

There are many ways to show someone you care.
Be there for them.
Craft matching swords and imbue them with old magic.
Adventure through the wildlands together, searching for forgotten tombs of the forest gods and the secret libraries hidden within.

It must be the Queen of Owls from Hookland for midwinter. The Dark is being turned back. Deep time of the year, hope you have time to pause to take it in, be a part of it.

In honor of the winter solstice I also will be cold, distant & filled with darkness.

Celebrate our solstice the old fashioned way.
Gather moss from forgotten tombs, wear a garland of ancient goblin bones to ward off fairy mischief, and catapult flaming davenports towards the moon at midnight, in the traditional manner.
