Friendly reminder that school administrators tend to take complaints from parents much more seriously than the same complaints from teachers. So if your kids’ school district is using PragerU stuff, please speak up.

Oh man. I forced myself all the way through it years ago- it may be the absolute worst of the genre- and that is saying something. I don’t remember it having a single redeeming quality.

Once again, Trump's tariffs are a heavy new tax on American consumers. They're NOT paid by foreign nations or foreign companies. They're paid by you and me in the form of higher prices on a staggeringly wide range of products.

1. The extra marginal tax rate will affect millionaires' daily lives almost not at all, which is why in reality none of them would leave the state.

Oh yeah. I’ve had a lot of success with Google Classroom and their “Office” products in general so that’s not really the issue. And when we get back I’ll ask our IT team about the possibility of turning of the AI search default. It’s more just the general unending creep of “AI” that worries me.

Right, but I’m talking about making it the default for the whole school district

I feel like schools could actually have some leverage here if they chose to act collectively- all those schools which use Google Classroom et al should demand that Google turn off AI Overview as the default.

This of course will never happen and Google would never agree. But we can dream, right?

When I was little, the U.S. military came to our home at gunpoint and took me and my family away. We were imprisoned for years in barbed wire camps simply because we were Japanese American. I have spent my life telling that story, hoping it would never be repeated.

Savvik reprimands David for using a substance which every ethical scientist has rejected.

David explains that if he hadn’t acted unethically the Genesis project may have taken years or never happened at all.

Savvik responds by asking David how many have paid the price for his impatience.

Watching Star Trek III The Search For Spock and David’s unethical use of proto-matter for the Genesis device because “if I hadn’t it might have been years or never” hits differently under the rush to make “AI” everything as fast as possible, ethics and consequences be damned.

And thinking more on it, since fato (long long) scans the same as Parcis (long long) there wouldn’t be a metrical reason to force you to sub one for the other

I would also say it is much closer to the abstract construct, though of course, separating those things an ancient context is messy at best. My experience would say that when they want explicitly to mean the demigoddesses they use Parcae. This seems more Vergilian fato profugus, fato perfunctus

I hear many of my high school students say things like “if I just get this SAT score and these grades I’ll get into this college and then I’ll go to this law school and then I’ll come out and be making $250K right away…”

If I had to guess, it’s probably at least partially related to the commodification of everything, and especially college - many of them probably got into college by more or less checking certain boxes that very often are tied to access to financial resources.

History has shown us that when productivity (however defined) is the only goal, then productivity will justify anything.
