08.02.2026 19:53 โ ๐ 15 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0I donโt really disagree, but just know from experience that it isnโt universally conceived of or applied that way.
06.02.2026 15:26 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Yeah, I totally understand about that - I think itโs all part of the sort of โhidden curriculumโ that those of us who donโt have academics in the family often discover only through often embarrassing mistakes. And agree titles should have meaning, sadly I just think they arenโt applied consistently.
06.02.2026 15:25 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0And many schools have โProfessors of the practiceโ who do not have doctorates, and sometimes not even MAs but rather extensive experience in the given field. This came up years ago on Twitter as well and I think the conclusion was that these terms are not as rigidly defined as is often thought.
06.02.2026 15:04 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0But then what of adjunct professors? I have twice been an adjunct professor, first of Italian at UNH and then of Ancient and Medieval history at Plymouth State University and I only have an MA. But both times my hiring papers said โAdjunct Professor.โ

If you donโt yet know about #SeumasU and the classes offered by @jeltzz.bsky.social there is, IMHO, no better way out there to improve your Ancient Greek and Latin! thepatrologist.com

25.01.2026 18:23 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0All historians, regardless of gender, do โgender stuff,โ all the time. Itโs just a question of do they work using lenses that are inclusive or exclusive. Many (most?) men have unknowingly been doing โgender stuffโ their whole career by reading and writing everythingโs through an exclusionary lens.

20.01.2026 21:17 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0I personally donโt think Pliny is asking forgiveness instead of permission here (though it would not be completely out of character) but rather is legitimately befuddled by the Byzantine ( ๐) rules regarding Egypt specifically since it functioned so differently from every other province
