It’s weird being a grown-up at a school you went to and it’s even weirder on picture day

We had a counter-protestor this week at our rally and we started singing "My Country Tis of Thee" and waving flags at him and you could see him sputter and turn purple.

I'm still going to go because after a week of nonstop doom and gloom, being around other people who care is a balm for my soul. I'm not alone, I'm not wrong. It gives me hope that not all is lost.

To ultimately be successful, we have to do lots of different things in different ways. A small standing rally isn't your thing? Great, do your thing and maybe we'll join you too.

I expect derision from the Right, that we're TDS and useless hippies or whatever, but seeing people who agree with us on issues dismiss us as ineffectual and useless is really rich from keyboard warriors.

It's also incorrect to assume people doing tiny, law-abiding, sign-waving rallies wouldn't do something else. But when we don't have other options, this is something easy and safe. We know our "Resist!" signs aren't going to fix things but *not* doing it doesn't change anything either.

A lot of the bigger ones are relatively far, so having one local is great if you can't go to a bigger or further city/town for hours and hours. This moment is not one-size-fits-all. People who care are doing *something* and if that's not good enough for big mouths, fucking launch something else.

It doesn't preclude other means of resistance. It doesn't cast judgment upon them as lesser. A lot of the people at my regular one are elderly or small children. Standing on a corner with a sign might be the limit of their physical abilities.

If you see us behaving "acceptably" and you know us, it might give the slightest pause to "bussed-in, paid agitator" nonsense. Or at least if you insist on that narrative, you can be dismissed.

I'm tired of seeing/reading/hearing people deride the small, quiet, local protests/rallies/demonstrations. They do serve a purpose: peaceful visibility. We are your neighbors, your colleagues, that person you see in the grocery store, pumping gas, walking the dog.
