I think when your relationship is strong that is usually more than enough. Kids are all different but I never really found artificial punishments did anything except make them resentful & make it harder to actually talk about what they did or come to me next time they messed up.

“That means courts will treat these children like adults” is a sentence the premier actually used. Proposing life sentences for 14-16 year olds is evil. Meanwhile the federal government is banning kids the same age from social media. Too young to post online but not to serve life in prison.

Almost everything listed was AI-generated citations that either didn’t exist or linked to the wrong papers. When I raised it, the provider confirmed that AI had been used and that the material was shared before human review. They also reminded me that doctoral candidates should be able to verify their own sources. That response was so disappointing. Doctoral candidates are expected to build on verified scholarship, not correct institutional errors. I’ve asked to withdraw from the course because the university doesn’t seem to understand why this is a serious concern and has pushed the responsibility back on me. Distributing unverified academic material in a foundation subject is a breach of academic integrity and sets entirely the wrong ethical tone for the course. Am I overreacting? Or is this yet another symptom of the wider issues that are undermining confidence in the sector?

There is really a serious problem within AI criticism around domains and content types. Eg - this viral LinkedIn post correctly reacting with outrage to fabricated references in a university course that uses a slop image created from a massive database of stolen artworks and photographs

Generative AI being 'wrong' in the information it produces, and being unethical in how it steals human labor are both overlapping issues and it's important to show a bit of damn solidarity even if you're not a scientist, or information worker, or a writer, or an artist, or a photographer
