Reminder to all parents not to join those group story things that ask you to post a photo of your child with their sensitive birth data... creeps abound and our kids are not safe on the internet. Not to mention, Meta AI is using everything you post to train itself and build lasting face print data

Grateful for the leg of these vanilla socks 🧢🧦 because my other knits are all at a transition point and I'm not in a place to be counting rows or shaping anything lol πŸ˜… #knitsky

But folks could organize a craft-in at public space, a house of worship or a library, etc.
I was not involved in forming this group, but in the past I've put up flyers at shops as a way to get attention for online info.

We are lucky that a local venue here is owned by a crafter, so they started a meet up in their space. People bring sewing stuff, knit, crochet, etc., and make things together from lunch to dinner time.

I'm more in the Sacramento area, and this is a hyper local group that feeds people in need of food, but I think looking up your local food distributions and seeing if they have need for hats and scarves- either this time of year or other times of year- is a great place to start.

We have a local call from a mutual aid group for hats and scarves, so a bunch of us that craft are getting together to make them, and then they'll be distributed, along with free meals.

Using this pattern for a quick mutual-aid knit... only needs 100g of dk to aran weight yarn. I made myself one in worsted ages ago and wear it a lot! 🧢🧣

Maybe that's where I got it from... Half the knitting podcasts I watch are based in the UK.

Nearly complete hand-knit sock in a canvas project bag

I grabbed my knitting and DPNs a bit too quickly rushing to kiddo's dance class, and I'm short a needle and no will to use my shortie as the 4th 😬 OOPS 🧢

My kindred! Haha!

But really it's so useful and I wish I'd started using it earlier on my knitting journey (knitting for 20 years, using the scale for 10 years)

I published that YouTube tutorial and then realized I've been using "cast off" to mean "bind off" for who knows how long, which isn't a huge deal except that I'm trying to teach things πŸ˜…

Anyway, if you want to hear me mix up all kinds of words, you can watch the tutorial lol

I really want to add chapters to my knitting tutorial and also I really don't want to spend 45min listening to my own voice 😬 🧢

It's fantastic for socks, for all these single-skein skinny scarves...

It's especially great for how I've been using it this month, to stretch donated yarn out as far as I can for specific projects - 6 balls of $5 yarn are now 24 project-sized balls of yarn! 🧢

My favorite knitting tool that you don't *need* is my scale. I love weighing out fiber, knowing how much I used for a project, how much I've got left, etc. 🧢

I use the same scale I use for baking, and set everything to grams for extra precision.

And, it's up!

A * very * simple washcloth, perfect for first-time increase and decrease stitches.

I've recorded a tutorial for my students, and if it's not terrible I may publish that, too (currently all my YT videos are unlisted).

Sometimes resistance is winding 100g balls of yarn into four 25g balls of yarn, many times, so that your knitting students at the free school all have free materials to learn with.

Knitting in community is the best way to knit, and I'm so grateful that I get to share the craft with rad people πŸ’—πŸ§Ά

I've got the students working on bunnies from garter stitch squares, and next week they'll learn increase and decrease stitches with the aforementioned washcloth pattern.

I may be having a better time than they are, because learning to knit can be rough!

Oh, no! I've found YouTube to be a good resource methods AND ALSO I've had designers flip the meanings of how those are structured so I know what you mean about needing to know what they want those to be... have you tried looking at the Ravelry comments section for the patter?

Never thought the first knitting pattern I'd be writing would just be an easy dishcloth to fit the needs of my knitting students, but here I am, writing and *hopefully* publishing it in the next 24hrs! 🫠 and yes I did aggressively search Ravelry 🧢

It's a lot to manage! I've got about 15 knitting students at my local free school, and tight knitting is really common to start, and getting the needles in a comfy spot is so unique to each knitter and it takes time. You're doing great!
