I agree in terms of the deal itself, I just don't want to judge the entire deal before we know what our roster looks like. As happy as I am that Vargas got the move he wanted, that means we actually need to go replace him.

Well, it's entirely on both of them collectively, but it's not just Waibel or just Hanauer. Hanauer isn't giving a good enough budget, and Waibel is incompetent at scouting.

Yeah, don't think this lies entirely on Waibel or Adrian, but both have a large part to play in our inability to sign players. I get the sense that Garth might have pushed Adrian to spend more than Waibel will.

And while he might not be at fault for the budget, this isn't the first time he's made statements that later turned out not to come true. The cynic in me says that he shops in the most expensive markets because if he doesn't succeed, he can say he tried and face less criticism.

Budget is clearly a large issue, but the front office hasn't managed to successfully sign a player from abroad who wasn't a free agent since DLV. They keep shopping in the most expensive markets with a tiny budget and have shown no ability to successfully sell Seattle as a destination for Europeans.
