I don’t understand this reasoning because it’s not an either-or proposition. MLS roster rules allow at most 3 truly splashy signings, and three more who can make less than the average starter. Even if those 6 are truly splashy, the majority of the roster is open for homegrowns to excel.

But seriously though, my question post-game to Brian Schmetzer would go something like, “We saw Leo Chu have his season derailed by that red. How do you plan to manage this situation so that this is a learning moment for Georgi and not something that derails his season?”

I think it’s heartwarming that Georgi would pay tribute to Sounders great Leo Chu by getting himself sent off for taking his shirt off and likely relegating himself to the bench for the foreseeable future.

It’s an extremely dumb rule and also extremely dumb that players still take their shirts off despite it being the easiest thing in the world not to do.

Yeah Facebook has always been a cesspool of Sounders fandom for some reason. I’m glad I never encounter it unless I happen to be browsing for used furniture.

Significantly better, honestly. The games have been wayyyyy more fun on the whole recently. That 3-2 vs San Jose was the most fun match I’ve been to in a long time.

I always see more people tut-tutting about angry fans than I see actual angry fans. Maybe that’s because I don’t follow any of the crazies, but maybe it’s just normal that people will be emotional after giving up the lead in literally the last minute of the game.

You’re right, and it seems to be getting worse as the years go by.

This is a well-argued critique of the Sounders’ current play style. They’ve struggled to adjust without Morris as a true 9. Playing true wingers while also opting for slower, more cautious possession means they lack both verticality and direct goal scoring from out wide.

In other words, Adrian thinks like an engineer, not a marketer. He cares a lot about metrics like maximizing spending efficiency, even as that approach actively makes his product worse and less appealing, because he doesn’t think like a guy in the entertainment business.

Perhaps that Adrian increasingly views his role as owner as though he were trying to boost sales of a declining car brand by getting hyper focused on improving fuel efficiency when the actual reason people aren’t buying the car is because it’s ugly and not fun to drive.

I think it’s probably getting harder for U22s to succeed in the prime attacking positions. Those spots have the most talent and competition on rosters. It makes sense to me to target a position like fullback where you can get a relatively high talent player who can step right in.
