The economy was good by almost all traditional metrics, but too large a portion of the country was still left out of the growth. Costs rose, but income didn't for many. Growing wealth inequality, along with the constant large layoffs, gives people the feeling that they're disposable in the US.

If he was serious, Don Bacon and a few of his Republican colleagues could cut a deal with the Democrats to do actual oversight of the Trump administration. Their places in the Republican party would be done, but it's way past time for some bravery to save the republic.
