A Distributional Analysis of a National Guaranteed Basic Income β Update
Fun fact: the ~$115 billion increase to Canadian defence spending needed to meet the NATO target of 5% of GDP is more than the higher-end cost for a guaranteed basic income as estimated by the PBO.

Early Hawaiian petroglyphs on a beach are visible again with changing tides and shifting sands
Early Hawaiian petroglyphs have resurfaced on a beach in Waianae, Hawaii. This is the first time the entire panel of 26 figures has been visible since they were spotted nine years ago.
Exceptionally low tides have uncovered over 30 ancient petroglyphs on Hawaiiβs Big Island, including human figures etched into lava rock. Likely carved by Native Hawaiians around 500 years ago, the site offers a rare glimpse into pre-contact cultural expression. buff.ly/OEJ8EtC

Probationary employees who had been on paid leave were told to report to ICE within seven days or lose their jobs. It could signal problems with ICE recruitment.
I hope they report and then do their jobs as INEFFECTIVELY as possible.

And years of ignoring that to only cover the most horrific and dehumanizing aspects of the process is just as much part of the fascism

Massachusetts police training materials identify Moms for Liberty as a hate group | Fox News Video
Moms for Liberty co-founder Tina Descovich reacts to news that a training manual for Massachusetts police officers has identified her organization as a hate group.
M4L is running with this story and claiming *they* are under threat while continuing to target librarians and educators for harassment, firing, and arreat for doing the same jobs, the same work we always have.
Because they *are* in fact a hate group.

The stories of the dead as individuals have always been less important than the symbolic service that the dead can be pressed into by the living, and that is a problem regardless of the technological apparatus in play.

Because thereβs only so much self-shaming and acceptance of other peopleβs hate one can read, even if
Characters ultimately excise the narrative/get support/heal from trauma
Thereβs a need for realism

We also need
books which are cosy,
those that offer a counter-realistic construction of what life can be like in worlds without transphobia,
those focused on trans characters whose privilege allows their lives to mostly escape dominating and oppressive hatreds
MOAR books is part of the solution

Given the paucity of books written prior to this decade with out transgender charactersβ¦ itβs can be a difficult needle to thread
I am deeply appreciative of books which give realistic accounts of what itβs like to experience transphobic ugliness. BUT
