Adding this to my OA TBR pile
Probably some interesting overlaps with my existing critical thoughts on philanthrocapitalism and QALy-focused effective altruism movements,... but goes further and deeper into not just the bad, but how β¬οΈ social change happens.

I often wonder whether it is possible for me to be creative or original, or if I am just very good, very practiced, at building seemingly new things from the bricks that others have left behind.

Neurodivergent Research Processes ADHD. ... [abbreviated opening to fit alt-text box] The graveyard of half-finished projects on my computer hard drive rolled over when I agreed to write this chapter. Your day will come, I assure them. I'm just waiting for the perfect weekend in which I have no obligations and wake up inspired to write one of those data sets into a paper! When that happens, the draft pours forth in a satisfying frenzy of emphatically loud typing. Unstoppable. Is there any difference between a paper written in eight straight hours based on data that sat untouched for two years and steady and deliberate progress on a project over the same period of time? To the journal reader, no. To the spouse, friend, or coworker witnessing the hyperfocus wormhole, absolutely. What magic! Not a researcher, but a machine! Perhaps coveting dazzling efficiency. To me, guilt covers neglected ideas as green biofilm, thicker and slimier each time I remember having forgotten and still lack the motivation needed to open the file and start. No matter what gets finished, I do not feel prolific or even celebratoryβI have poor object permanence. In press may as well be in a closed drawer or cabinet: as good as forgotten. I canβt imagine spending a career studying one highly specific topic. I get bored. Or rather, I get distractedβI have variable attention (see Bertilsdotter Rosqvist et al., 2023a, 2023b; Hallowell & Ratey, 2021). What is as tantalizing as a new idea? It can make planning difficult. The proposal flows almost effortlessly. Data gathering is intoxicatingβthe only true novel information that exists in the world. As I said in middle school: science class was a misnomerβit, too, taught history. But where does one find the motivation to transcribe and code after conducting an interview? To revamp a rejected paper and reformat it for submitting to a new journal? There are so many steps between revelation and dissemination, each one treading through quicksand.
Are we supposed to cry when we read about the research processes of neurodivergent researchers?

When was the last time you were really hungry?
Hungry enough that it made it hard to concentrate or prevented you from doing something strenuous, hungry enough that you started to think about whether there was something else you could give up so that you could have more consistent access to food?
I want more people to care that SNAP benefits are being cut off on November 1. 40% of SNAP beneficiaries are children. This is callous and vile.

radicalization (online or otherwise) is always about choices made by (vulnerable) people in variations of duress, deprivation, + constraint (as most agency)
wikipedia's data shows that AI is siphoning traffic away from the site, which is a danger to its sustainability. ironically Wikipedia is more important than ever to users who want reliable information instead of slop, and to AI companies that need it for training data www.404media.co/wikipedia-sa...

And by that, I mean people begging for help and sleeping on the streets. That's what it means for an unhoused population to exist, after all; a failure of human rights.
ICE kidnapped 2 people in my neighborhood yesterday. Neighbors who saw yelled, blew whistles, hid others. Beyond those actions, it seems vital to do just everything we can to maintain freedoms of expression, religion, association, etc. against the authoritarian onslaught until it inevitably ends.

21.10.2025 22:00 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0In case you were wondering,... I thought the Lutherans (Nordic OA ftw) were winning
until I looked at the CLDS/Mormon theology
Honestly, I am unsurprised
They've been more invested in broadcast information dissemination than any of the emergent or missional movements for at least 3-4 decades.
I wouldn't trust this as anything but a very rough "back of the envelope" calculation but OpenAlex data says that only 9.92% of articles with "anglican theology" in the title or abstract are open access.
Same figure for "catholic theology" is 16.1%
Baptists are 13.4% open (but not to dancing)...
I'm always very open about the fact that I received SNAP benefits and Medicaid for a bit after I fled my abusive husband with my little kid in tow. I used it to help me start over in a new state and go back to school to get my BA. I now have a PhD.
SNAP benefits saved my life.
Perhaps its because there's no sizable German or Eastern European Anglican contingents...
the communion is smaller than its Vatican-led parallel
It doesn't surprise me that there's no journal in the DOAJ that has Anglican in the title, while there are many that are oriented to Catholic content.
When there is a born-OA Anglican journal... it may originate in Africa like HTS Teologiese Studies.

21.10.2025 13:34 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0It feels easier to persuade people that
our interests lie together
for this stretch of road
than
we have the same interests
because its closer to the truth
(that neither of us knows how proximate our aspirations are to meeting our common good needs, though no doubt we lean to what we believe)
Sometimes its easier when those people are vulnerable
Co-mobilization with powerful people you disagree with is harder, because you have to be willing to draw your lines and maintain them.
Better to start with them in the open.
Democracy has to be about learning to have multiple sets of boundaries and enforcing them: about living with and among people you strongly disagree with and not doing violence to them.
