Yesterday, five-year-old Liam and his dad Adrian were released from Dilley detention center. I picked them up last night and escorted them back to Minnesota this morning.

Liam is now home. With his hat and his backpack.

Picture this image without the blood of an innocent woman. When I look at it, I see my sister's car when my nieces were young. The stuffed animals, the water bottle, the beads hanging from the dashboard, the random odds and ends of daily life. We all know this car, and it's heartbreaking.
