While Germans do visit the town in large numbers on summer weekends, it's not a big international destination - so it could make a good base for exploring Maastricht, the Maasduinen national park, Nijmegen, and Zuid Limburg as well 👀

Not to mention some classic Dutch houses and alleyways, far less crowded than in Amsterdam 🏠

All accessible by NS train from Amsterdam / Schiphol, AND from Germany by Deutsche Bahn RE13 from Düsseldorf and Hamm. That includes the #Deutschlandticket ! 🇩🇪

Places with enough going on to make visiting fun and easy, while also not piling on to busy/viral spots and disrupting local life 👍

Venlo is a great one for those visiting NL and going on to Germany. Small, walkable, but with riverside greenery, nice independent places to eat and drink...
