the more i read the AEG coo fall out the more amazed I am at the lack of self awareness that the COO wrote "People then apply risk capital against those ideas to see if there’s a product market fit." and never once suggesed maybe a LLM could replace his job and his roles and obligations.

Thanks for hanging out, those who did.

Aside from anything else, it's a very good way to focus on work, so I'll definitely be doing it again.

I am very annoyed that people think 'rich' means 'that guy has a mercedes and takes a vacation to italy once a year' and not 'that guy has more money than 40% of the world combined and can decide to start or stop wars based on his personal prejudices'

the sums involved are incomprehensible

Can y'all just stop with the

"man we're like a third world country now"
"Man we're now shitter than that other country that we were better than"

This is also american exceptionalism. Its just more self-effacing about current events.

Americans really have to give up this idea that they are, or ever have been, superior in all ethical and political considerations than all other nations.

Especially when your perceptions of other cultures seem to all come from how they were in 1945.

The OGL was, by his own words, an attempt to starve the rest of the ttrpg industry by turning any and all diverging systems into d&d clones.

This was not a thing he did right.

I mean, yeah. Curious what makes you think the USA are typically better at it.

The downside here is that I believe that one of the reasons that the RPG as a category has declined so much from the early 90's relates to the proliferation of systems. Every one of those different game systems creates a "bubble" of market inefficiency; the cumulative effect of all those bubbles has proven to be a massive downsizing of the marketplace. I have to note, highlight, and reiterate: The problem is not competitive product, the problem is competitive systems. I am very much for competition and for a lot of interesting and cool products.

So much for the dry theory and background. Here's the logical conclusions we've drawn:

We make more revenue and more profit from our core rulebooks than any other part of our product lines. In a sense, every other RPG product we sell other than the core rulebooks is a giant, self-financing marketing program to drive sales of those core books. At an extreme view, you could say that the core book of D&D -- the PHB -- is the focus of all this activity, and in fact, the PHB is the #1 best selling, and most profitable RPG product Wizards of the Coast makes year in and year out.

The logical conclusion says that reducing the "cost" to other people to publishing and supporting the core D&D game to zero should eventually drive support for all other game systems to the lowest level possible in the market, create customer resistance to the introduction of new systems, and the result of all that "support" redirected to the D&D game will be to steadily increase the number of people who play D&D, thus driving sales of the core books. This is a feedback cycle -- the more effective the support is, the more people play D&D. The more people play D&D, the more effective the support is.

As Ryan Dancey discourse is crossing the timeline, a reminder of what the OGL was *actually* supposed to achieve. It wasn't some benevolent gift to the community; Dancey was trying to drive system competitors out of the market.

Entire backbone of the English economy right up until the victorian age! There's a reason why the machines that the Luddites were smashing up textile machines. Main difference being that in the middle ages we were mostly selling wool to the Dutch lowlands for clothmaking, rather than making it.

Though the delay is a shame, this'll make for a better, more exciting Kickstarter in the end - especially given that I'm using some of the extra time to arrange some fun things...

Thanks for your understanding, and please do continue to spread the word wherever you can.

I don't yet have a new launch date for you, but it'll likely be some time around late May or early June, when I've had a chance to get back into work after the honeymoon! I'll do a separate update as soon as I know, which should be very soon.

I also have an important update. For Life Reasonsβ„’ (good ones), I'll be delaying the original announced Kickstarter launch. It turns out doing a wedding and a honeymoon during a Kickstarter campaign is perhaps not the best idea (who'd have thought).

I'm thrilled to see that we've passed the 200 follower mark. I was anxious about whether we'd manage to break three digits, so to see us go way beyond that is exciting as hell.

Public Access by the Gauntlet is razor sharp, powerfully strange and enormously thought-provoking. My players are still daydreaming about our campaign, even though it finished six months ago. I think your players will too.
