I've been reading white dwarf since the 90s myself and, yes, the political satire was more obvious when the company was smaller. But it's ignorant of the facts to say that modern 40k isn't satire. You have to willfully ignore it at this point.

That's not remotely true. Imperial guard are overwhelmingly seen as fodder thrown at enemies of the Imperium and killed in their millions over useless, dead moons in operations decided by lords who have never as much seen the system. They're more of a critique of the evils of WWI style dick waving.
