@rmtransit.bsky.social what’s the ballpark cost to upgrade the switches? Do the streetcars need a corresponding upgrade or just the tracks?

That "empty" bus or bike lane is probably moving a lot more people than you think!

Opportunity to redesign the road so the natural speed is the safe speed?? More likely they’ll just increase the speed limit 😩

In cities where there isn’t likely to be investment available for badly needed service improvements AND free fares (sadly, that’s MOST cities), I strongly prefer strategic ridership-focused SERVICE IMPROVEMENTS, along with reasonable fares (and free fares for under 18, over 60, and low income). 3/

'It’s a miracle': Helsinki's radical solution to homelessness Finland is the only EU country where homelessness is falling. Its secret? Giving people homes as soon as they need them – unconditionally

HOUSING THE HOMELESS SAVES MONEY: β€œa study showed the savings in emergency healthcare, social services and the justice system totalled as much as €15,000 a year for every homeless person in properly supported housing.”

It works, helps people AND it saves money.

toronto's newest stretch of bus lanes entered service this month along the downtown east waterfront - supporting better reliability and ~5 min travel time savings for thousands of riders across 4 routes.

these were painted just 2 months after council approved it. it can be that easy.

A Real Solution to Highway 401 Congestion β€” the Express Subway. A subway to Pickering makes much more sense than a 401 Tunnel.

I'm trying to step away from transit, but I felt I needed to suggest something since the silly idea of a 401 road tunnel still hasn't died. Read now:

Let’s be clear β€” the β€œWar on the Car” populist narrative attacking any attempts, however small, to add more CHOICE in how to get around cities, has always been bullshit.

But there absolutely should be a β€œwar” on car DEPENDENCY.

How can MORE CHOICE, with proven benefits for all, possibly be bad?

β€œnon-trivial share of the driving public will switch”

Is there data from other cities that can approximate this number? Is there a tipping point where this amount actually improves congestion for those who continue to drive?

Slow buses (Dufferin/Bathurst) push riders to aspire to drive. More driving slows down the roads for everyone

Bus lanes retain riders and increase ridership (eg King Street Pilot project). Some of those new riders would have driven -> faster travel for everyone

Doug Ford’s budget will target more Toronto bikes lanes Sources say Thursday's provincial budget legislation will include the removal of the bike lanes on Queen's Park Crescent, around the legislative precinct, and on Avenue Road south of Davenport Road.

Said it before, I will say it again. Whatever the Premier says, this is not transportation policy. It's an dogmatic position on who has the right to use public space and how. www.thestar.com/politics/pro...

Congestion pricing has improved life in New York City by: reducing cars on the street, speeding traffic (especially at peak hours), speeding buses and making them more reliable, expanding transit ridership, reducing car crashes, reducing noise complaints, and increasing the number of visitors.

NYC’s congestion pricing is a policy miracle: Less traffic, less noise, faster transit, more business sales, more transit revenue. And it hasn’t produced the negative effects outside the cordon zone we were afraid of.

Disagree with Naama Blonder about not putting bike lanes on arterial roads. The way our suburbs are laid out, alternatives are impossible. The road allowances are wide enough to support a safe bike lane. re-upping Andy singer:
