A historic site with no displays.

A public hall that’s closed six days a week.

Surrounded by busted sidewalks and a park rebuild that hasn’t begun.

Toronto spent vast sums and 20 years on this project. It was very late and far over budget, yet it is a shambles.

"This sorry episode demonstrates not just how Toronto forgets its past, but also how the city manages to forget how it forgets its past." @johnlorinc.bsky.social is rightly outraged at the way the new market building ignores the site's significant history spacing.ca/toronto/2025...

People want to have kids and live downtown. Can they? - Western City Magazine For decades, planners focused on attracting young singles to dense urban cores. That dynamic has shifted, in part because ...

NEW: β€œSome still insist β€˜downtowns will never attract kids and shouldn’t try.’ Then they design downtown to virtually repel kids, and it becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy. Vancouver proves the opposite can be true...”

Here's @johnlorinc.bsky.social with a burner on @spacing.bsky.social about how the new market/courthouse has barely any Toronto history interpretation despite being one of the most historic spots. This project got budget cut, ToryFordized in architecture and historic oomph.

How Ottawa can get the most infrastructure bang for its buck Projects of national importance need to be fast-tracked, Carney says. What can go wrong? Plenty

#cdnpoli New from me in the Globe’s ROB Magazine: if @markcarneyforpm.bsky.social wants to avoid allowing the nation-bldg projects to become mired in delay, overruns & buyer remorse, he’d do well to listen to the world’s top megaproject expert Bent Flyvbjerg. www.theglobeandmail.com/business/rob...

Ditto. Ours also came fitted out with a ravine (for smoking) and a ravine gang (for shakedowns). Seems to me that sequestering 800 12-14 year olds in a single bldg is basically neighbourhood harm reduction.

I couldn’t wait to extricate myself from elementary school. The local middle school had a bit of a rep but i remember how good it was to escape from the petty childish bullying that prevailed in the local K-6 and move on to something more teenager-ish.

For the record.

My posts were not even about Kirk directly, but about America's apathy towards political violence, and the coddling of white male shooters and hate peddlers.

I was fired because I mentioned race: white men and violence-- that was my "gross misconduct."
