The stakes for the NIH and US science could not be high-er. It is impossible to overestimate the transformative impact of federal funding on science and medicine. The NIH proudly counts 174 Nobel Prize laureates among its research staff or grantees.& NIH-funded Nobel laureates have achieved groundbreaking discoveries, from the invention of PCR (polymerase chain reaction) and the development of CRISPR (clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeats) gene editing to the identification of hepatitis B and C viruses, telomeres, restriction enzymes, and prions. Their research elucidated fundamental mechanisms that led to lifesaving antiretrovirals, vaccines, statins, and cancer therapies, advancing medical breakthroughs that have benefited every US family, regardless of income or political affiliation. What is at stake is not conceptual or theoretical or ivory tower but instead intimate and personal. This is about the health of your grandmother and grandfather, your mother and father, your sister and brother, your children and grand-children, and your spouse. This is realism, not alarmism.

Home page for MMWR | MMWRMinusSASstats The Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report (MMWR) Series is prepared by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

We are still rejoicing that the beloved MMWR is back to regular weekly cadence. This week's report has two publications - one on the first case of mpox Clade 1b in the Americas, and another on influenza seroprevalence among bovine veterinarians. You can find both here: www.cdc.gov/mmwr/index.h...

Iโ€™m heartbroken and furious in equal measure. He doesnโ€™t know the difference eternally Medicare and Medicaid but is now in charge of both.

Heโ€™s at least part beagle. And they think maybe some German shepherd? His mama looks like a bigger than average beagle.

Had a meeting at work yesterday where we talked about what to do if ICE shows up at our clinic (FQHC in MA) and only my hat in progress kept me from crying. Good news: HIPAA >> ICE (for now). #familymed #darktimes #knitting
