Last month, I gave a talk at the Computer Conservation Society on Lore Harp. Founder of Vector, she was a key figure in early computing.

Not all cherry blossoms are pink or white...there are also rarer pale yellow and light green varieties.
Green sakura blossoms at Ninna-ji.
Ninna-ji is famed for its orchard of 'stunted' cherry trees, but the grounds also have dozens of other varieties of sakura.

๐ค๐ธNOT ALL PINK๐๐
Cherry blossoms are known for their delicate white and pink petals, but there are a handful of sakura trees that show off different colours at this time of year.
Ninna-ji (ไปๅๅฏบ) and Hirano-jinja (ๅนณ้็ฅ็คพ) are good places to see these unusual varieties.

The same box and angle, now open to reveal a tray full of white and silver objects, and a geometric drawing inside the lid
Contents of the tray laid out: a tiny mortar-pestle, a lump of gum arabic, three vials of different white materials, two reed pens, a white feather, a round moonstone
With the tray removed, the bottom is revealed to be the second half of the geometric figure, with 12 circles gilded to look like phases of the Moon.
A redux thread of my planet-themed Treasure Boxes.
I make these as interactive art that engages all the senses, and invitation to experience a sense of wonder and mystery. Hence the contents isn't explained, but includes corresponding colour, art materials, objects, scentsโฆ

10.03.2025 13:03 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Part of a page of a medieval manuscript that had a hole cut into it. Underneath it is a restoration of a large decorated B, which would have been in this place, and which was restored by Eliza. The letter emulates the medieval style of script, but the image inside it is in a late 18th century style, showing a verdant tree standing against a green bucolic landscape.
In the 1790s a London woman named Eliza Denyer developed a modest reputation as a restorer of medieval manuscripts. She was forgotten by scholars and, in one case, her restorations were deliberately replaced by a manโs. I recovered her story & tracked all her known work here: tinyurl.com/2ktztx2e
