This is what I'm using too. It's annoying how poorly it interprets my swipes, but at least they aren't watching me.

Just remember that vim is like a language, with verbs, subjects, etc. Don't expect to be fluent right away. Learn enough to get by, then as you find certain things that seem more annoying than they should be, you find better ways to do those things.

You might also start by installing one of the vscode exensions that let's you use vim commands there. It can be a lot to learn a new environment at the same time.

First, look into vimtutor. It'll give you a good introduction into the basics of how to move around and edit text. Once you have that stuff down, you'll be able to learn more and get more efficient.

mini.files is my preference. It works the same basically, but the interface is better imo.

Is it vim motions and commands that you're looking for help with, or the editor itself?

You can change to another desktop environment. One of the primary advantages of Linux is that you can change out the parts that you don't like.

Have you tried the vimium extension? It's more than a '/', but you can do most things quickly without touching your mouse.
