When confronted by a well executed magic trick, some people get upset or frustrated. Others are completely delighted. Most people can’t help themselves, and try to figure out the secret, as if it were a puzzle. Every now and then a person will make eye contact, a nod, and I know that they know.

Fellows event at the Aspen Institute tonight was an evening of conversation with Scott Galloway.

Smart, funny, angry and lobbing refreshingly candid opinions about economics, politics, and social issues. A terrific night of thought provoking and sometimes challenging brain food. I like him.

A refreshing and relaxing vacation with my family in Panama meant a long restorative break from news, from screens, and from social media.

The 50th anniversary program from SNL was terrific top to bottom. Great funny sketches, killer musical guests, some nostalgia, some surprise star power—we laughed our a***s off and loved every minute of it. Well done to a true cultural touchstone.

Today, my 12 year old daughter and everyone in her school will practice lockdown drills. They will lock themselves in their classrooms, turn off all lights, hide away from doors and windows and maintain silence until given the all clear by law enforcement.

I was showing my daughter the upcoming show mailer from Wheeler Opera House, and telling her we were going to see Colin Cloud.

Her: “Can we go see Judy Collins?”
Me: “Judy Collins? Why?”
Her: “I love scary stories.”

It’s kinda grisly, but I confess a slight smile pulls at the corners of my mouth every time I think of the Denis Diderot quote, “Men will never be free until the last king is strangled by the entrails of the last priest.” (I like to imagine him breaking the fourth wall to deliver it.)
