Someone once told me the easiest way to spot the difference between a crow and a raven is:

If you see a jet black bird, it’s probably a crow

If you see a crow and think “holy shit, look at the size of that crow” it might be a raven

for me it was the fact that the author is one of the main driving forces behind the global movement to kill my trans friends and erase their existence
