the license criminalization scheme in Kansas...stripping immigrants of their legal status...
all of this shows, and is meant to show, that the legal rights of disfavored groups are conditional and can be rescinded at will
such discriminatory chaos is incompatible with a real inclusive democracy

Not having a car in the far reaches of SoCal is mind-numbingly challenging. If I want to leave Coachella Valley via public transit, I can only do so on weekdays. Getting anywhere in the IE involves 3 buses and a train, and everything shuts down at 9 so there's no way home.

Firefox added a setting to block AI features on the browser entirely. This is a good thing, right? Feels like it. Maybe if everyone disables AI it sends a message. At least it's better than having it forced.

Can't say I'm happy about USA Mens Hockey right now. Why was Patel there? Why is it impossible to denounce a fundamentally corrupt government and decline an invitation? I get that it's a dream to visit the White House with a gold medal but the circumstances demand more from you.

GeoGuessr - Let's explore the world!
GeoGuessr is a geography game which takes you on a journey around the world and challenges your ability to recognize your surroundings.
Finally back on the leaderboards for IntersectionGuessr - CA. Small victory but I really want to hit top 10. I know it's just a matter of hunting the right seed. It takes time and a lot of gathering random bits of knowledge. We'll get there!

I was verbally accosted by a man in a sports car who almost hit me after he failed to yield before crossing a pedestrian walkway. He parked in the crosswalk and screamed profanity at me, called me stupid, and accused me of asking to get killed because I was wearing dark clothes at night.

SDOT reconstructing the curb ramps at Olive Way E and Bellevue Ave.
An illustrated plan of the current street configuration at E Olive Way & Bellevue Ave.
An illustrated plan of what E Olive Way & Bellevue could look like with decreased lanes, wider sidewalks, closed slip lanes, and a bus only turn lane.
After noticing the repaving of the curb ramps at Olive and Bellevue, I drew up a quick illustration of what could be done with this part of Capitol Hill with a major overhaul. Note that in this plan, I close the on-ramp from westbound Olive Way to northbound.

I just want to say car free living in a California desert suburb feels completely insane and untenable yet somehow I still have no interest in ever owning a car again. Every time a motorist intentionally tries to scare or hurt me it strengthens my resolve.

It really does feel like this current administration is some kind of accelerationist ploy to move American government into its next iteration. It's like every move is designed to strike at points where our political system is weak.

So it turns out... the US air travel system was incredibly, deeply dependent on federal funding to just run day-to-day all this time, to the benefit of private airline shareholders, when everyone thinks that state-run trains are leeching off the government. Weird!

I like when people tell me a post car dependence USA is "never gonna happen"
The way I see it, if we don't move past car dependence, there will be no USA. So it is inevitable either way. We must adapt or we will perish.

Rent control is a crucial part of the urbanist conversation. Cities need to get bolder in their approach to ensuring housing for the people who work in the city. Housing is a human right, and I believe in a day when it is guaranteed and safe transportation is always accessible.

Q: Why don't urbanists seem to care about gentrification?
A: There is an observable trend of whiteness in urbanist spaces. It reminds me of the twitter truism "gentrification starts with a bike lane." It never sat right with me and I think Doug put it very well when he said safe streets should be...
