When I toured Cornell looking at schools as a kid, I passed Sagan’s office. All the other faculty had name plates you could slide in and out on the door, but Sagan’s was screwed in. I asked why.

Apparently the name plate was stolen so often he had a box of spares. And then they “fixed” it for good

This is generally why I don’t play games more complicated than TF2. If I don’t play for a couple days I have NO CLUE what I was doing. I liked Zelda a lot, but even that I couldn’t figure out what the objectives were (or how to find them) after I put it down for a week.

There was so so much that was held together by convention or “norms” that it turns out you can just ignore. It’s insane it’s happening but also insane that so much has been left for so long without being codified.
