I really like that idea! Since materials can't be brought back into another run naturally, you can strategically place them. But maybe user placed items attract more enemies to the area? Or maybe each area has an item level that determines the difficulty of the area? Lot of fun stuff to game out

Oooo but then as you happen upon the corpses of your previous runs deeper in the dungeon, you find their loot. That could be a fun loop if balanced right.

A barebones menu in a video game. It says "debug" in the top right and "macabrett" in the top center. There is a stage select menu item with "stage 1" currently selected, a "launch stage" button that is currently highlighted, and an "exit" button. In the bottom right are button prompts for "confirm" and "return".

Sometimes you don't quite have your level select "overworld" finished, so you have to use a cheap little debug screen to select stages

I've been in the pixel art world for so long now that I don't use any of the more robust image editing software anymore, but that's good to know!

I was using Affinity's illustrator equivalent occasionally, but I just use Inkscape for all of that these days.

Sapphire was probably my last completed too. I didn't play anything on the DS or 3DS because I didn't have them, but I tried a few of the switch games and yeaaaah not for me. Don't think I'm their target demo lol
