Raids like these will never fix a broken immigration system. What we need are real and humane pathways to citizenship, not storm troopers laying siege to people in their own homes.

37 people arrested and American kids separated from parents after ICE raid at Chicago apartments | CNN Adults and children alike were pulled from their Chicago apartments, crying and screaming, during a large overnight raid that has left tenants and neighbors shaken.

The ICE raid in Chicago in the middle of the night was an assault on humanity. Agents stormed into a high rise apartment, tore children from their parents, and left an entire community traumatized. This was not law enforcement, and I stand with my colleagues in Chicago in condemning it.

There are over 8,000 federal workers in CA-12 who will be impacted by this shutdown, and countless others who rely on government programs that are now on hold.

Two days into a Republican government shutdown and the Department of Energy just cancelled over $1.4 billion worth of energy projects in CA-12. 

This means two things for our district: higher energy costs and massive job losses.

Cruelty is the point. Californians deserve better.

Let me be clear, Republicans have effectively been shutting down the federal government since the start of the year. They are holding our government hostage, while I am here with my Democratic colleagues fighting for working families.
