Today's German lesson: "FreizΓΌgigkeit" describes either the fundamental right to live wherever you want, or it means being naked. Context matters.

Dear Dr. Simon Hammann,

I would like to invite you to submit an article to Chemistry & Biodiversity.
The Editorial Teams of our journals are constantly monitoring the latest development in the scientific community with the aim of offering the most up to date content. We currently looking at expanding our portfolio towards selected areas of growing interest to our readership, such as Chemical Toxicology.

Having followed your recent research, we believe that a contribution from you and your collaborators on the latest developments in your field would be of great interest for our readership and would complement the top-level science already published in Chemistry and Biodiversity.

If you agree to contribute, we would ideally receive your submission to Chemistry and Biodiversity by September 30 2026, but if this date does not suit you we can surely adapt it.

In a slightly confusing development: I now receive invites from more reputable journals - this is a Wiley journal. Other than the more generous deadline and slightly more polished language this very much looks like the usual #AcademicSpam.
Is this the continued MDPIsation of academic publishing?

It definitely helps that Hohenheim has a good size: Three faculties, about 130 Professors. Small enough to bring everyone together without everything becoming completely overwhelming

It's a great event, it gives a time and place to meet all those colleagues (particularly from the other faculties) you just don't see often enough throughout the year. Fantastic to find common interests and develop ideas. Or talk about bread baking with a wheat breeder and a nutrition scientist.
