I'm grateful that there was a free weekend for Kingdom Come: Deliverance II recently, because I was interested in that game until I played it for 2 hours.

I'm now more confident than ever that I can safely regard any AAA video game story as boring if the "story" is primarily told through cutscenes.

I first played Caves of Qud around Thanksgiving, then a few years later I dived back in around the same time. So now when there's a chill in the air, the urge to Live And Drink strikes again...

Once you realize there used to be a person supporting the Japanese emperor with the title Lord Keeper of the Privy Seal, the names of bosses in Dark Souls make more sense.

I like reading physical media, so I wanted to give Game Inf*rmer a fair shake and I got their magazine. But their coverage is so rote and mainstream, it's so boring.

Also, the first sentence of this Ninja Gaiden piece is the worst piece of professional writing I've read in a while. Word salad.

Not sure the folks at NBC/Peacock thought this one through

Also let's not jerk off too hard to a "4K remaster" that's probably just DNR. If GKIDS did more work than that, I assume they'd actually give some information in the press release that describes what they did to "remaster" it.

Anyway, this is a cool way to reuse the typeset from the US release.

This is propaganda. I actually listen to Patrick's podcast and I like his authorial perspective but come on man. Perfect Blue is like top 50 max.

No fucking way the Perfect Blue 4k re-release is only a $100 "collectors edition"...

Maybe it's easier for me to throw stones now that I work for an unambiguous (in my mind) morally good employer. But jesus, have some self respect.

I'm happy with how much money I make, but it is weird feeling like my path diverged from this guy's only 7 years ago and now he makes 10x more than me.

Anyway he went to grad school for CS, worked for an AI startup, and now works for a DoD contractor on AI-driven autonomous surveillance systems at border crossings and such. How the fuck did that happen? I thought he had some kind of moral backbone.

One of my buddies at Epic was this guy who majored in Philosophy. We didn't work together much but I felt like we shared a similar trajectory of begrudgingly accommodating a normal corporate environment. We both got pretty good at that.

I don't think Paprika will ever see the same kind of universal acclaim, because there's some real anime shit that happens in that movie, but it's probably Kon's best work. Then Paranoia Agent has the "problem" of being a series instead of a movie. So it makes sense Perfect Blue is the Kon vehicle.

Perfect Blue getting yet another bump in cultural appraisal with the 4k remaster. You love to see it.

Several Michael Mann movies have busted audio mixes. The rumor is that he kept making decisions even after developing hearing problems, so the mix in a scene is whatever sounded good (presumably through his hearing aid) on the day. Just speculation though.

Ability to hide reposts and quote posts per followed account · Issue #1116 · bluesky-social/social-app Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe. I know that I can hide reposts and quote posts via my settings. But I'd like to be able to decide that for each account I'm following....

Coincidentally I was just looking into this yesterday, since I desperately want it too. It's been a "huge missing feature" with no dev update since December.

A news paragraph written in English but about 1% of the characters are replaced with a random Japanese pictographic characters.

There's an official chronicle of Emperor Showa (Hirohito) that took 24 years to compile and is 12,000 pages long. Also the only English-language article about it has the weirdest typeface/typeset fuck up I've seen in a while.

I genuinely think I'm bad at learning languages (was my worst subject in school; it seems like I'm going slower than other people who post online), so that's probably part of it. Guess what, suckers! This tortoise is still crawling!!

I spend like 8 hours a week studying Japanese and when I show improvement I'm always kind of surprised. I guess this is what people call impostor syndrome, but it's weird because I've never had impostor syndrome for other stuff in my life.

There's like a 60% chance when trying to read a Japanese sentence that I comprehend something about the meaning, and like a 10% chance that I can read it outright. But I still have the same feeling I did two years ago of, "I'll never be able to read Japanese." What is wrong with me?

In an alternate timeline, I actually got into a PhD program in 2021 to study human-computer interaction and I have to think about generative artificial intelligence 24/7 and it's the only thing people want to talk to me about.
