Yeah, I love #Leviathan ! Didnβt think of that one yet.
Which is the second you wanted to suggest? Your reply breaks off suddenly. π

I've just realised how much the plots of #theprincessbride , of #thecountofmontecristo , and of #ironman 01 fit together.
Now I am fully engaged in outlining a #steampunk , #scifi and #romantasy story.
So please! Help me #booksky to give me more stories that are like that as reference.

Andy Serkis does overal a better job of Narration in this one than he did in fellowship. Maybe his voice fits better with the less whimsical tone of the second book? Maybe is 60+ extra hours of experience with the voices is what did it.
1/2 Found the story as brilliant as the first time I read it. Tolkien truely ears his name as the grandfather of fantasy.
For voice Narration this obvious remark: Andy Serkis has the best portrayal of Gollem. And he proves again how well he knows the character.
Listened to part two of this masterpiece.
The Narration gets better and better.

Aeron raised his glass approvingly. βSo it isnβt just tradition. Itβs a strategy.β
βItβs survival,β Seamus corrected, as he downed his pint in answer: βWe dwarves are nothing if not survivors.β
6.
βAye,β Seamus said, theatrically darkening his voice. βYour people live in trees, all high and mighty above the ground. A sword might be good in a one-to-one duel, but it canβt bring down a tree.
5.
βAxes arenβt just weapons, Aeron. Theyβre a message. A reminder of where the real threat comes from.β Seamus narrowed his eyes and waited, letting the cluttering barsounds fill the silence.
Aeron frowned.
4.
βThe dance of battle,β Seamus scoffed. βYou elves think too much like poets. A good axe doesnβt need to dance. It needs to end a fight before it begins."
βBut why an axe?β Aeron pressed. βWhy not a hammer, or even a mace? Youβre miners by trade, not the hewers of wood, isnβt it?β
3.
Aeron let his most knowing smile play on his lips. βIt is precision that wins battles, not brute force. Your axes, they are unwieldy, only suited for chopping wood, perhaps, but not for the dance of battle.β
2.
Seamus glanced at the axe he had tried to subtly hide in the leather booth next to him. It was only half-covered underneath his coat and bag. βRefined? Is that what you call those flimsy toothpicks you fight with? Iβve seen them snap like twigs against good dwarven steel.β
Story Time... ( #ODAE )
1.
βYou dwarves are a strange race, Seamus,β Aeron said, fixing a stray blond hair behind a pointed ear. βIβve been wondering of late why, of all the weapons one might choose, you cling so dearly to your axes? They lack a certain finesse, no.β
Wow, thanks!

"One trilogy to rule them all, one trilogy to find us nerds,Β One trilogy to bring them all, and in the darkness bind them; In the mind of Tolkien where fantasy blooms."
I hope #audible will have a better version one day.

... this kind of worlds.
Tonally the first half didn't fit the chapters right thereafter. That part felt too long. But this is something that many books in this genre have.
Keep reading, the end is great!
Asks questions on the nature of sexuality, without turning woke or condescending.

This is a scifi book, with a focus on sociological and antropological elements.
If i have to compare this to any other work it would be A Brave New World. But more fitted to our current-day sensibilities. And with a more true relatable POV character.
The language of the author really fits...
The Left Hand Of Darkness

Great for fans of #bravenewworld
Ursela K Le Guin is truely the best contemporary non-epic #scifi #writer! But the middle of this one was a bit to slow for my taste.
What do you think of her work?
