Now I am fully engaged in outlining a #steampunk , #scifi and #romantasy story.

Andy Serkis does overal a better job of Narration in this one than he did in fellowship. Maybe his voice fits better with the less whimsical tone of the second book? Maybe is 60+ extra hours of experience with the voices is what did it.

1/2 Found the story as brilliant as the first time I read it. Tolkien truely ears his name as the grandfather of fantasy.

For voice Narration this obvious remark: Andy Serkis has the best portrayal of Gollem. And he proves again how well he knows the character.

Listened to part two of this masterpiece.

The Narration gets better and better.

“It’s survival,” Seamus corrected, as he downed his pint in answer: “We dwarves are nothing if not survivors.”

“Aye,” Seamus said, theatrically darkening his voice. “Your people live in trees, all high and mighty above the ground. A sword might be good in a one-to-one duel, but it can’t bring down a tree.

“Axes aren’t just weapons, Aeron. They’re a message. A reminder of where the real threat comes from.” Seamus narrowed his eyes and waited, letting the cluttering barsounds fill the silence.

Aeron frowned.

“The dance of battle,” Seamus scoffed. “You elves think too much like poets. A good axe doesn’t need to dance. It needs to end a fight before it begins."

“But why an axe?” Aeron pressed. “Why not a hammer, or even a mace? You’re miners by trade, not the hewers of wood, isn’t it?”

Aeron let his most knowing smile play on his lips. “It is precision that wins battles, not brute force. Your axes, they are unwieldy, only suited for chopping wood, perhaps, but not for the dance of battle.”

Seamus glanced at the axe he had tried to subtly hide in the leather booth next to him. It was only half-covered underneath his coat and bag. “Refined? Is that what you call those flimsy toothpicks you fight with? I’ve seen them snap like twigs against good dwarven steel.”

Tonally the first half didn't fit the chapters right thereafter. That part felt too long. But this is something that many books in this genre have.

Keep reading, the end is great!

Asks questions on the nature of sexuality, without turning woke or condescending.

This is a scifi book, with a focus on sociological and antropological elements.

If i have to compare this to any other work it would be A Brave New World. But more fitted to our current-day sensibilities. And with a more true relatable POV character.

The language of the author really fits...

Ursela K Le Guin is truely the best contemporary non-epic #scifi #writer! But the middle of this one was a bit to slow for my taste.
