I was thinking about my pals that seem unbothered by America’s current moment, and I’m wondering if even our varied impulses to be detached from the horror is a sign that we can’t even communicate coherently anymore.

I dunno, maybe they do see how their paradigm or opinion is a sin or a vice and they’re not willing to confront it, in which case it’s really about transfiguring desire. What then is required for us to share a language?

Cynicism and detachment are my worst impulses, but I know they’re bad; they’re damaging, and when they persist, it’s generally a sign I’m intentionally closing myself off to the issue, question, or circumstance.
I worry these aforementioned friends don’t see the problem,
