I think that a lot of designers in the hobby space shy away from swingyness instead of treating it as a tool to create excitement. Lords of Vegas is an example of using it as a tool. There’s some pretty swingy mechanisms, but most are player initiated and require you being willing to take the risk.

Finally got around to playing Pax Pamir on the table after tons of BGA plays. Firmly secured its place as my favorite board game and Cole Wehrle’s best game.

I showed my wife this picture and she said “that looks like ham cubes from a salad bar”

Also, Pax Pamir rules. It’s secured its place as my fav board game after finally playing it in person (I’ve played it bunches on BGA). Now I can beat the drum of this being Cole Wehrle’s best without restraint.

But I was raised as Protestant as you can get (thankfully without all the Catholic hating that can come with it, especially in America), so a lot of it is also just ingrained in me at this point

My reason for not being Catholic (or Orthodox, or, heck, even Anglican or Episcopalian) is that these large, hierarchical organizations end up acting in ways that prioritize their continued existence and power even when it runs counter to their calling. Which is scary for me when talking about faith

My totally uneducated guess is that it’s the internet. People have access to more information and interact more with Catholicism as it actually exists, as opposed to the spooky image it was presented to them as.
