Sheep are being herded across a river bar, trampling over a researcher's study transect.
..And there we were, counting grains along a transect on the river bar surface, when - before we knew it - we were counting sheep. #NZGeomorphology

Looking at riparian understory using SLAM (simultaneous localization and mapping). Points collected using a Faro Orbis scanner. 75M points drawn from the full 450M (cleaning still needed!). 150 m channel length; typical channel width is ~3m. Data collection by Sheldon Benito - more to come..

Great paper! A long-overlooked aspect of river response and adjustment around faults.

If I ever do write up a story on the stunning Quaternary terraces of the Waiau Uwha River and their intriguing tectonic deformations, I will offer due acknowledgements to my bored teenagers who put up with every road stop photo op on our tramping tour through Lewis Pass (North Canterbury, NZ).

Following our work on the post-earthquake sediment budget of the HΔpuku River (www.science.org/doi/10.1126/sciadv.adi5560), our next focus is modelling sediment pulses moving from the range front to the coast. Delft3D-FM (+ParaView!) nicely captures the effect of confinement and floodplain storage.

Hello Bluesky!
Now that classes are done, and I have time to think about something besides the next lecture, there may be some time to get social. Here's to summer fieldwork coming up soon..!
