People who like AI aren’t using photoshop because they’ll use better, cheaper slop machines to edit images. People who hate AI aren’t using photoshop because AI is constantly being shoe horned into the product. Crazy huh

This is a spicy take and I love how conflicted it makes feel me as someone who digs rules-light systems but also enjoys games that force you to problem solve within the confines of a ruleset

UK Games Expo criticized for promoting RPG with generative AI imagery Gates of Krystalia’s creators insult commenters, struggle to explain provenance of LLM training material.

UK Games Expo promoted a tabletop RPG on Instagram that claimed to use "fully ethical and transparent" generative AI. Everything went downhill once the publisher began responding to criticism.

Random but: the amazing thing about making art for your own games, whether you consider yourself an artist or not, is that as soon as you make a piece of art? You are an artist. Whether you’re a “good artist” is entirely out of your hands, and always will be. All you can do is throw yourself at it.

I think it should capture that UKGE is far more to us than a con to buy and play board games. It’s an opportunity to meet the artists, designers and writers who inspire us, to see amazing projects being worked on. AI undermines all of that and will rot the con to its core without intervention

For people who would like to email UKGE and express their disappointment (IN A CIVIL WAY) in regards to Expo's stance on gAI:

I think it's exceedingly important that we as creators, artists, writers and all the other varietys make it Vocally clear that "Everyone uses Ai" is in fact bullshit and just those that are unwilling or unable to try and put themselves out there looking for an excuse to steal & profit from artists!

I wasn't going to say anything about the biggest TTRPG convention in the UK promoting AI slop, but then the slop makers said "everyone uses gen AI, we're just honest about it", and I fucking saw red.

Make your own art. Even if it's rancid garbage, it's still better than a machine's hallucination.

@ukge.bsky.social shared a post on Instagram about a card game that has gAI 'art'. People (including me) commented on it expressing their disappointment. UKGE chose to respond by hiding the comments.
Should we assume UKGE is pro gAI and doesn't care for artists without whom the con wouldn't exist?
