I've been trying to do this more often myself. Sometimes it works, but I'm still getting a lot of "Can I see some other options? Just to compare and contrast?" (Mostly from indie clients, not usually publishers.)

Yeah, I usually know where I stand with the DC house style and can make lettering decisions that work well within it. Other publishers seem to sometimes change how they want certain things lettered from series to series and I can never predict how things like numbers will be handled.

Lost all of my money investing in this shady airline that only offers flights after dark. It sucks, but I guess it's my own fault for trusting some fly-by-night operation.

I always letter it the way it's supposed to be and then just wait for an editor to tell me I'm wrong. Works every time.

Every time I spell out the number in text (in the correct context of spelling numbers 1-20), an editor tells me to use a number. Every time I letter it as a number (in the correct context of any number over twenty can be numeric), an editor tells me to spell it out.

So I have no idea either.
