Can we PLEASE stop calling them β€œhallucinations.”

A hallucination is a false sensory perception.

LLMs don’t *perceive* anything.

These are β€œCONFABULATIONS.”

Thank you for your attention to this matter.

For a less important thought:

β€œLiquid I.V.” is the stupidest name for a product I may have ever heard.

Somehow, it’s simultaneously redundant AND incorrect.

Folks are asking a really good question about age cutoffs for colorectal cancer screening, suggesting it should be younger.

A lot of rigorous and thoughtful work by experts goes into designing guidelines.

It might seem that everyone should get a FIT test, but there are risks involved in this.

Shout out to Dr. Mary McDermott who was the first author of a study published in @jama.com about how certain medication doesn’t help people with Peripheral Artery Disease (PAD) which’ll further impair walking performance.

American medicine is *FAR* from perfect, but it's not some conspiracy to hide evidence about secret life hacks or one weird trick.

The truth is too boring.

Don't be distracted.

Great to see @drjengunter.bsky.social in this article @nytimes.com about Attia. She has a great take on longevity.

Trump in 2004, on CNN:

"You know, it's interesting, I've been now around long -- you know, I think of myself as a young guy, but I'm not so young anymore. And I've been around for a long time. And it just seems that the economy does better under the Democrats than the Republicans."

We made a similar point AND I achieved a career goal, getting a Greg LeMond quote in the title of a biomedical paper back in 2012.

Need to read the article and I agree it's not in the top, say, 20 problems facing the profession.

The timing of this is not great (I see you @mwfriedberg.bsky.social).

Still, I don't think we should willingly aquiesce to our own dimunition and commodification at the hands of corporate medicine.

Because this fits my priors so well, I will not subject this to any type of critical analysis or thought.

It HAS to be true.

Am in year 3 of a 5 year project.

It's pretty de-motivating to not be sure if year 4 funding will be there.

A big waste of taxpayer money, which, for the record, for our project, would fund teams in Illinois, Pennsylvania, and Utah.

There was a brief window before the government shutdown when AHRQ grants were going out.

Language that came out of AHRQ mid-2025 was something like AHRQ "no longer has grantmaking capabilities" because there was no one left to process grants.

For my quote....

β€œThe last thing you want is a stupid A.I.-dependent doctor,” he said, in which, β€œI turn my brain off and A.I. tells me what to do all the time.”

...i have this figure from @nejm.org in mind.

You want your doctor operating at the top of the figure!
