f*ck TABOR

@fcktabor.bsky.social

Just a Colorado parent angry about the short-sighted cuts and decisions TABOR forces onto our communities. It's eroding the opportunities and fortunes of Colorado families, now & in the future. F*ck this. 30+ years of this sh*t is enough. We deserve better

Let’s fight fully funded. Let’s work on repealing Tabor.

Lawmakers stare down long-term cuts as Colorado runs into TABOR’s hard spending cap The budget will dictate state spending for the upcoming fiscal year, which begins July 1, but will ripple through for years to come.

TABOR has caused a structural budget problem that is forcing increasingly difficult budget cuts that will hurt Coloradans. Thank you, Nick Coltrain, for this well done story. #copolitics #coleg www.denverpost.com/2025/03/24/c...

The fact that TABOR itself doesn't count as a single subject is ridiculous.

I have a solution. It's called putting TABOR on the ballot and letting the people decide whether they care more about $500 refunds or kids.

Plug key issues that are part of fighting oligarchy specifically β€” I would have loved to have seen you/Bernie mention TABOR repeal in Colorado, the critical change we need to tax the rich on the state level.

The Taxman In 1992, Colorado voters took away politicians' ability to raise taxes. This is the strange and sometimes unbelievable story of how a man named Douglas Bruce convinced them to do that β€” and what's hap...

Nice writeup. Your Colorado assessment seems on point, though any comparison of what we’ve passed relative to states in comparable situations should mention that TABOR hamstrings the state from raising revenue even in times of GDP growth. Huge problem. www.npr.org/podcasts/563...

Squeaky wheel principle, nothing gets fixed if people aren’t aware it’s a problem. Messaging isn’t enough alone but it’s definitely a key step that CO Dems as a group have punted on, leading to a predictable budget crisis AND a public confused about TABOR downsides.

24.03.2025 15:20 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 1    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

the one and only defense of Colorado Dems is that TABOR ties their hands in a way that is unlike any other state. But Dems are terrified of attacking TABOR, terrified of taking the fight to an awful roadblock. And again: absolutely no leadership from Polis on this as a rich libertarian.

For #Colorado folks:

Look into the history of TABOR, very specific interests shook hands to create it.

End TABOR. That’s it; that’s the long-term plan.

American civil society is full of abject cowards, that is the issue. The government is a mafia state but it is winning because most American elite institutions are devoid of anything resembling integrity and are folding rather than stand on principles that were little more than marketing.

To be fair, @jennybrundincpr.bsky.social responded to me on another post saying she was working on some stories around TABOR & the impact of federal cuts on our state. There's so much going on, I trust she'll do a more in depth story soon. We need state leaders & orgs. talking about it too.

You're implying that investing in my disabled child's services is a "pet project" and "bulk and grift" – despite the fact that my child will now require fewer resources from the state longterm and will likely be able to give back to the state more than he needed throughout the course of his life?

If it's so great, why has no other state (even conservative ones) adopted it? If fact, when it's popped up on ballots or in legislatures in other places, they all recommended against it and showed how it was failing CO (yes, again, even conservative economists & leaders).

As teachers rally, data shows Colorado schools have been underfunded by $10 billion over past decade Thousands of teachers from across Colorado descended on the state capitol Thursday to demand lawmakers provide more money for schools. But it’s not a new issue.

Colorado's TABOR law, which blindly ratchets down government budgets is the cause of this. Terrible fiscal policy continues to harm generations of Coloradoans. www.denver7.com/lifestyle/ed...

Also think about the difference in impact here.

If you make under $13k per year, losing $1000 is DEVASTATING. That’s meals you can’t eat, desperately needed medical procedures you can’t get, school supplies your children can’t afford.

If you make $3+ million per year, $180k is just a third yacht.

Maybe there's hope for our state yet (yes, I'm aware this is an echo chamber but let me have some hope for a second). #COleg #COpolitics
