Working in an IB school where IOs (Individual Orals) are part of English and MFLs. We grade our own students, and samples are then moderated by the IB. Could a system like that work in Ireland? I enjoy the IOs as they allow students freedom to pursue lines of inquiry. I can see the pros and cons.

Interesting reading for anyone teaching in the UAE or Gulf. I'm planning a mini Lang and Lit unit using Friel's Translations as an anchor text. The irony of working in an angelised education system in an Arabic speaking country is not lost on me.I am also part of this Anglo-Americanisation.

Feel guilty at times reading about the crisis. I initially left on a career break to teach abroad and stayed away. None of my teacher friends in the UAE want to return home to the prospect of expensive houseshares when we can afford our own (often beautiful) apartments here.

Good point. It's definitely a possible hindrance. Many who have returned are surely part of a union. Just boggles my mind that valuable experience is not recognised or renumerated. It makes teaching less attractive than other professions.

Sorry to have missed the Jan 13th conversation. Currently teaching MYP and DP English(and TOK - love!) in an IB curriculum school in the UAE. Thinking about returning home. Really worried about incremental experience not being recognised. Was that addressed?
