I saw Bruce at the SBux HQ (before they shuttered the Roastery) with his body guards making sure, even if you wanted to ask him a question, you couldn't.

He was definitely only at that Roastery because of the ample parking.

I would honestly love for @spottnik.bsky.social to come back and lead SDOT, but with a mayor like @wilsonforseattle.bsky.social who would, I believe, support transformational work instead of allowing this to happen.

Grade separate all the bike lanes in Seattle but definitely these.

Also, there was nothing unintuitive about the bike connection before.

Diagonal crossings are horrendous. They just added unnecessary conflict points for people on bikes.

It's just that the decision was "unguided" but it was absolutely made.

The signal should also only change when a bus is actually arriving

Another issue with the 12th and Union bus lane removal: People will absolutely turn right to 12th (more) with this change. Now it is very clear - No Turning, but with the turn onto union the traffic flow will be even MORE confusing for the people who couldn't figure out the current configuration. ☠️

Right, signs, policies and laws don't make that big of a difference in behaviors - design does.

I was just as shocked with the news about the route 2 bus only lane as you. We are working on it. We need to prioritize pedestrian safety and not go backwards on our transit investments.

Time to build up some pressure on SDOT and the mayor's office!

Ryan, do you have contacts who could put together a grass roots measure and do outreach (to get feedback from stakeholders who were intentionally ignored) to help undo this change?

I hope @wilsonforseattle.bsky.social will be able to undo this mess when she wins. And get an accountable SDOT director too, maybe?

I bet most of the business owners didn't find out what the mode share of their businesses are before complaining.

The current admin would just love a legitimate reason to bring a lawsuit against a city like Seattle though.

An added benefit is it lowers pollution too - ensuring you can meet climate goals.

The further away all signage is, the larger it needs to be to be seen correctly. This includes stop lights too. Smaller lights also means the poles need to support less weight and so on.

This has the added benefit of making all the light infrastructure smaller, saving untold sums of money (and a lot of Europe does this because they're actually civilised over there)

Do what Paris did - get rid of ALL the cars there - there's a school there after all.

I mean does our society care about kids or not? Based on the way we build our public spaces, I would say our society hates them.
