Having suffered the pain of a tooth infection I can unequivocally say that this man died in absolute agony. The type of nerve pain that will have you screaming and wondering quite rightly if you’ve gone insane
This man was tortured through neglect, and everyone involved is an irredeemable monster
1/ ProPublica collected handwritten letters in mid-January from children held at the Dilley Immigration Processing Center, the same facility where 5-year-old Liam Conejo Ramos was taken.
Hundreds of kids are still detained.
We’ll let the children’s words speak for themselves. 🧵
Grateful to The Guardian for asking local reporters to contribute to stories like this.
With all eyes on Minneapolis, cities across the US, including in Oregon, are still feeling the impacts of Trump’s cruel deportation machine.
“We can’t simply make them all fearful to engage.”
Annoyingly, this doesn’t specify what exactly is happening. But it sure seems like DHS filed a “motion to pretermit” the asylum application. Which it is doing in countless cases around the country.
There’s been a little reporting on this; there needs to be a bunch more. I’m working a piece myself.
The irony of my child’s sign they were so proud to bring this afternoon.
"Return CBP to the border"
Now that you have seen what CBP does, why is it okay to have them on the US-Mexico or US-Canada border? Some people say they want "a controlled border" but at what cost to life?
my biased 2 cents but at PIRC we repeatedly asked partners to say stuff publicly and most wouldn’t, despite private agreement. We’ve gone on the record with our position (like aclu or) but it’s hard to keep holding that line when no one will join us and the revoke folks bring such bad faith attacks
And he didn’t. He tried to help a woman who’d just been assaulted. There was nothing rash, stupid, or radical about what he did. He showed kindness. And they killed him for it.
Alex Pretti was a colleague at the VA. We hired him to recruit for our trial. He became an ICU nurse- I lover working with him. He was a good kind person who lived to help and these fuckers executed him.
White. Hot. Rage.
The Trump-Vance administration just used your taxes to pay for ICE agents to kill a 37-year-old nurse, who was only there because another ICE agent killed a 37-year-old mother of three, who was only there because ICE agents are kidnapping your neighbors
And all that said, I am taking endless inspiration from my friends & comrades in Minnesota and across the country. And knowing that there are more of us against this than for it. I truly believe that one day all these ICE jails (and all prisons) will be closed. I just hope we get there soon.
And as an organizer and person in close relationship with a lot of migrant families, it’s really hard to have to change the risk analysis and tell folks that actually yes, there’s a real chance their kids could end up detained too. It’s just dark.
And to think also that things also seem so much worse legally now than they were in 2019. The regulations then were pure evil - MPP, the safe third country transit ban, etc. But with immigration judges pretermitting (ie ending) most asylum cases now without a fair hearing, it’s hard to have hope.
In my work with detained clients now, I find myself thinking about Dilley almost every day. Nothing made me hate ICE like working there did.
This week I’ve been feeling more depressed than normal about immigration and I think it’s the marked increase in family detentions - here in Oregon last Fri, Liam Ramos in MN, now in Spokane. As someone who used to work at Dilley, I think there’s few institutions as depraved as family detention
No one should be shot by law enforcement. No one should fear leaving their home because ICE could snatch them at any moment. Yet this is the reality of the local asylum-seeking Venezuelan community and many others right now. ICE and CBP have no place in our communities and must be disbanded.
Due process means everyone gets a day in court. What we have seen from this administration is a reckless disregard for this cherished right, foundational to a functional state. When they murder people in the Caribbean or shoot them in US streets, they are acting as judge, jury and executioner.
what this should make clear to everyone in this country is that it does not matter who you are, there's no "it could never happen to me"
you can be a white woman who drives around with stuffed animals in her car, and they will still kill you in cold blood and call you a domestic terrorist
none of this is legal. none of this is normal. feel free to tell anyone who says otherwise to fuck off.
Waking up to the news that the US has bombed Venezuela, kidnapped its president, and will now seek to decide its fate (i.e. “liberate” its natural resources). We don’t have money for basic infrastructure in our local communities, but we can always start new wars? Absolutely sickening.
Three million people live in Caracas, five million in the metro area. It's one of the densest cities in South America. Remember this in the morning when they try to spin this as anything other than a cold-blooded attack on a major civilian center.
blue states should create escrow accounts into which citizens pay their federal taxes but are withheld by the state until the federal government stops acting like its only obligated towards states that support the maga agenda

if a street kills this many pedestrians it should get knocked down to 2 lanes, 15 mph, speed bumps, new concrete protected bike lanes, and this should happen within a few months
you! are! a! lawyer!
I fear that the legal community will act like Trump admin's lawyers are normal lawyers--like they'll get nice firm jobs and their law schools will invite them to talk to students, etc--but the lawyers facilitating Trump's lawlessness should be professionally and socially shamed
Please love the city more than you love having everyone behave at the dinner table. Please love your neighbors more than you hate bad publicity.
