We went v heavy on youth & “potential” in the Summer & him, Dibling etc. are coming into a team that already struggles desperately to score goals so I have sympathy.

It’s sink or swim in a ruthless PL tho and you have to adjust as quick as you can and show signs you can affect games.

How do you think he’s performed since when he’s played?

There’s a balance between giving the younger players we signed minutes and them also showing “something” when they do get on time on the pitch that warrants them getting more.

42 Premier League goals scored last season (4th lowest in the league) and of our 9 Summer signings only 2 of them get in the starting XI and neither of them offer goals.

Solanke was signed for £65m on a 6 year deal. That leaves him as valued at approx £55m. No chance we have that £. Spurs have CL & will need him for the amount of games they’ll play anyway

If a striker isn’t currently playing that suggests to me that they aren’t scoring which in turn means they’re of no use to us.

I keep hearing the phrase “developmental signing” re: Barry.

Given we don’t have endless £, I don’t know how we solve this problem, especially this season.

Strikers who are half decent at putting the ball in the back of the net don’t tend to get sold in Jan unless massive amounts of £ are sent the selling clubs way.

14 teams in 04/05 in the PL scored less than 50 goals.

6 teams in 24/25 in the PL scored less than 50 goals.

Top half doesn’t happen these days (freak performance aside) unless you’re scoring 55-60 goals minimum, never mind European qualification.

We’ve got some nice footballers now but need much more potency and ruthlessness in front of goal.

Asked a match going Utd fan I know who loves him what his highlights/attributes were:

Scored a few memorable goals.
“Technical” player (I view that as in he’s good at sideways passes).
“Brilliant on the half turn” (me neither).
Not very athletic or mobile.
