Feminist, nerd, sailor, gardener, embroiderer, beekeeper. Should be writing. She/her.

Three jars of peaches
02.08.2025 21:50 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Oooh. A little late but may add that when I do cobbler.
Never made rumtopf! It looks fun but also we already have too much booze at holidays.
Took the extra peach syrup, simmered it down, and then attempted caramel. Weβll see how it comes out. Of my clothes. Apron woulda been smart.
A pot full of peaches and syrup
Should I add anything else to the brandied peaches? Three jarsβ worth, all likely to end up in cobbler.
02.08.2025 18:51 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 2 π 0There's not exactly a drought! All this handwringing is because there's a lack of interest, not a lack of content.
The question really is "How do we make men feel like they can preserve their historical position over women-as-a-class without going full right wing?" and that's a losing premise.
Or did you mean more modern?
02.08.2025 00:35 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Iβm guessing you already know this, but for nonmedievalists, anything Mary Carruthers

OMG PEOPLE! I have the BL hack of all BL hacks. Why didn't this occur to me before? It turns out the Wayback Machine has snapshots of MS metadata from the old Digitised Manuscripts site. I tried it for the Benedictional of St. Γthelwold, in honor of his day, and lo! web.archive.org/web/20140305...
01.08.2025 14:49 β π 107 π 46 π¬ 3 π 2So uh I guess one takeaway from all this is that Ian Dunn stepped on a dang landmine of how disenfranchised, silenced/ignored, and imperiled leftist women feel under Trump 2.0.
And how as a reaction we have become furiously unwilling to bend.
Sincere question, do they not all just share mailing lists anyways?
And being a professional politician does not, to the best of my knowledge, make one superhumanly able to shrug off that much stress, hatred, and the defeat.
In fairness, sociopathy might, and significant numbers of them have it.
I think the problem is that the piece itself comes off differently than that post does. Also, many women have a visceral reaction to being told to expect violence if men's sexual needs aren't addressed, or that ongoing violence is the result of failing to take those needs seriously.
01.08.2025 15:58 β π 625 π 92 π¬ 13 π 2Like I very much see your point but I've also been in a lot of discussions in activism circles about avoiding burnout, and that's what this looks like to me.
01.08.2025 22:22 β π 44 π 0 π¬ 2 π 1OK but while I did campaign for her, I did not have her schedule and I was not at the center of that maelstrom. If she wasn't running on fumes by the end, she's not human. And now she's rested she seems to be jumping back in.
This is a relay race we're all in together.
The manosphere is not about teaching men how to get laid. It almost certainly makes things worse on that front.
Itβs about teaching hierarchy.
You wantβ¦romance novels, Ian. They already exist.
01.08.2025 20:05 β π 351 π 45 π¬ 7 π 4In which case we can't sell this to them as "how to get laid," because that still positions women as a prize they can earn. Not as egregious as PUAs, but nonetheless "do x in order to get girls."
I think a lot of the approach he suggests in the piece would be useful. But his framework is poison.
And to be blunter: why should we have to bribe young men "not to be dicks"*?
Do they not have hands?
*ie "treat women as human"
It's flawed from the get-go because it's coy about the actual goal of these men: not orgasm (or we'd talk toys, sex ed, sex workers, and destigmatizing all that) and not relationships (or we'd talk communication and more than sexual), but access to women. The focus is still on acquisition.
01.08.2025 21:38 β π 15 π 4 π¬ 1 π 1But that's not his actual topic. "Getting laid" stands-in for neither orgasms nor equitable relationships. It's a telling phrase. Acquisition. The other person involved is elided, because it's not about her desires or personhood. Getting "it," not "her," makes sex a thing she keeps from you.
01.08.2025 18:43 β π 10 π 1 π¬ 0 π 0We can talk about loneliness! About the decline in close male friendships and the disintegration of their emotional support systems! (We already do.)
And about healthy relationships and ways of finding them! (We already do.)
We can destigmatize pleasure, masturbation, sex workers. (We already do.)
This approach is poisoned at the root.
01.08.2025 18:37 β π 4 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0If this were about a sheer biological need for physical pleasure, then we'd have a different discussion: one about Texas's ban of sex toys and so forth.
But it's fundamentally about access to women. For ego? Social capital? Emotional validation? All of the above, I suspect. It commodifies us.
Rude
31.07.2025 19:42 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Last I saw someone had pasted dragons over the bathroom signs anyways
31.07.2025 01:36 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I obviously donβt love this, but also my coed housing at Brown had bathrooms alternating gender by floorβ¦so we all just ignored the signs.
