I’m watching the Ice Cube War of the Worlds and in the scene where he’s frantic about his daughter’s heart rate being too high, it’s lower than my exercise heart rate during curling 😭

It’s so fun, and simultaneously has to be one of the top hater songs ever made

Good relationships are based on adaptive communication rhythms, which is why I am entering couples counseling with the security turnstile I have to swipe at my office building each morning, as we are SEVERELY out of sync

mRNA tech is some of the coolest, most powerful, most promising scifi shit humans are currently doing. They are being investigated to help with cancers, autoimmune diseases, M.S., stroke recovery, heart disease, diabetes, arthritis, and high cholesterol.

very Jack Kirby

I liked the grittiness of the final act contrasted with the brightness of the earlier part of the movie

It was nice and escapist to be within a largely positive world

I like the hints at Reed’s hubris

They’ve gotta figure out how to shoot in more physical environments

Fantastic 4 quick reactions:

I thought the casting & characterization were perfect

I loved the visual aesthetic

Aspects of the performance felt stiff; almost like it was digitally assembled from individual good parts

I liked the neutron star scene a lot; those big science fiction ideas are

β€œDo we like Damien? We like Damien, don’t we? It’s all for him, we do it all for him. We just want him to look at us. We treat him well, sometimes he’s not very nice to us, but it is for him, it’s really all for Damien.”

I’ll admit to not being super well-read in English poetry, but I keep coming across random Keats references and realizing how deeply they’re woven into the Hyperion novels

I reply: "i actually had a career in knifemaking before this. the reason why you can't avoid tariffs in knifemaking is because everyone relies on Gobelin machinery. are you aware of this?"

Alex replies: "Gobelin machinery? What exactly are you referring to?"

I reply: "you Gobelin DEEZ NUTS!"

If you're using AI to write essays, eulogies, a text to your wife, I do think less of you as a person. Ceding your mental and creative abilities to a machine is an embarrassing thing and people should be ashamed to admit doing it in public.

I wonder why replies have been disabled on this article that blames a crime under a Tough On Crime, Pro-Cop mayor (former cop) on a mayoral candidate (who, lemme double-check, is not yet mayor) because that candidate is critical of the efficacy of policing, which did not prevent this crime.

From my kids’ transition from Jackson to NY State, I think they were reading a little ahead of peers here. But there is also such a smugness to MS leaders acting like they’ve figured out some secret sauce when they fail in so many other factors that creates a tougher environment for longterm success

Y’all I am very stuck on comparisons between Adam Sandler and David Lynch. Both have very weird non-sequiturs, cast real people, and let scenes play out longer than is comfortable

So I just watched Happy Gilmore 2 and surprisingly the comp that keeps coming back to mind is Twin Peaks: The Return, in that you can’t recapture that old feeling. The difference is Lynch knew it and wielded it intentionally.
