This is what the people blaming "open borders" for the fentanyl crisis don't get. It's just not cost effective for 100's of thousands of individuals to smuggle a few pounds each. The real players smuggle it in by the ton in trucks and on ships, and bribe or blackmail officials to look the other way.

I find it very troubling that people in charge at Treasury right now don't seem to understand the free rider problem and why we have taxes in the first place. Very few people would pay them voluntarily if they could still use services. That's how we ended up $36+ trillion in debt in the first place.

I don't know why this such a hard concept to understand: the *reason* we are charged taxes is because nobody would voluntarily contribute/donate to the government if they could enjoy the services without paying. It's called the free rider problem.

Less than 1% of US imports come from Indonesia. Indonesia exports 10% of the world's copper. Basically, none of it is imported by the US. What did we win here? We can now buy copper from a country we could always buy copper from if we wanted to? Everything we buy is now 30% more expensive? Winning!!
