Van Campen defeated six-term incumbent Mayor Carlo DiMaria, the guy who allowed ICE to kidnap a 13-year-old from his city last month. Elections have consequences.

A scanned legal document from the United States District Court, Northern District of Illinois, Eastern Division, titled “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA v. MICHAEL RABBITT, KATHERINE MARIE ABUGHAZALEH, ANDRE MARTIN, CATHERINE SHARP, BRIAN STRAW, and JOSELYN WALSH.”
It shows case number 1:25-cr-00693, filed on October 23, 2025, before Judge April M. Perry and Magistrate Judge Heather K. McShain. The document is marked “UNDER SEAL” and notes violations under Title 18, U.S. Code, Sections 111(a)(1), 372, and 2.
The first section is labeled COUNT ONE and begins: “The SPECIAL JUNE 2024 GRAND JURY charges:” followed by four subpoints (a–d) describing an ICE officer (“Agent A”), the Broadview Service Staging Area in Illinois, and the defendants’ residences in the Northern District of Illinois. A red “FILED 10/23/2025” stamp appears at the top right, along with the signature of THOMAS G. BRUTON, Clerk, U.S. District Court.

Kat Abughazaleh (@katmabu.bsky.social) has just been indicted by the DOJ over participation in protests against ICE at its Broadview facility in Illinois. This is a brazen weaponization of the DOJ to target political opponents with bogus charges.

I have been charged in a federal indictment sought by the Department of Justice.

This political prosecution is an attack on all of our First Amendment rights. I’m not backing down, and we’re going to win.

NEW: Video shared with me from a bystander in DC shows multiple masked federal agents (at least one of whom appears to have an ICE badge) violently attacking and handcuffing a delivery worker in the street outside Bluestone Lane cafe near Logan Circle this morning.

Please take care when watching.

Why a Mass. police chief sent an officer to get a nude massage From unusual business hours to mysterious comings and goings, the signs of illegal activity at this massage parlor were hiding in plain sight.

The police chief says they're investigating whether "human trafficking" was taking place, but they charged one of the alleged sex workers with a crime even though she presumably would be a victim if this was a human trafficking case.

DC is under attack & too many people don't even see it. Our law & order has been left up to a man who decided to release Jan 6
insurrectionists but won't release the Epstein files. Shit is weird. Public housing is federal property so that blunt on the porch could now set you up for a future you don't want. Simply put, they geeking like shit. We have to know the laws that govern us. We have to move with discipline so the smallest thing is not the reason they take our freedom. They are watching us so we need to be just as vigilant. Let's put our people on game track how feds move through our city so our most vulnerable are safe. They thought they cooked us but this presents an opportunity to come together as a city that's been divided behind short shit. Guarantee me safe passage & I'll walk through every trench in this city myself to build with the leaders & make sure that communities are safe by showing them how to build the infrastructure to fight back.

Upon arrival, officers observed the female holding a bladed object, which turned out to be a broken half-pair of kitchen scissors, while sitting on the ground. Police said they ordered the female to drop the weapon and lie on her stomach.

The female dropped the scissors and took off running, police said. Officers detained the individual following a brief physical confrontation.

Once detained, officers discovered the juvenile had an intellectual disability and was younger than the age originally provided by the caller who reported the incident.

Once they determined the juvenile posed no threat to herself or others, they removed her handcuffs, arranged for a paramedic evaluation and took steps to reunite her with her mother, who was working at a nearby business, according to police.

McNamara praised the officers involved for demonstrating significant care and compassion in their interaction with the disabled juvenile.

"As police officers, we never know what kind of situation we are facing when we are called. Reports concerning armed individuals must be approached with the utmost care and caution," Stoughton Police Chief Donna McNamara said in the written statement. "The added variables in this case — a child with autism spectrum disorder — add a great deal of difficulty and emotion for everyone involved, but I am grateful that our officers relied on their training and responded with care, compassion and professionalism,” she wrote.

Police later determined the juvenile was not swiping at cars or threatening individuals with the item, contrary to the initial report, the written statement said.

Do we really need to put in the newspaper how compassionate cops are every time they don't kill an autistic child sitting on the ground while hiding a broken pair of scissors? Shouldn't this be the norm?

Peredo Carroll said her client spent a couple days in a small holding cell by herself — an 8-foot-by-10-foot space with nothing but a toilet. Eventually, two other women were moved into the room.

The space was so small that all three of them couldn't lie down at the same time, Peredo Carroll said.

"So two of them could lie down while one was leaning up against the toilet," she said.

Eventually, all three women were moved to a larger holding cell with about a dozen other women. Once again, there were no beds, or a sink with soap for handwashing, and the women slept on the floor.

There was one toilet in the center of the room and "the women used the aluminum blanket to cover each other as they used the toilet so they could have a little bit of privacy," Peredo Carroll wrote in her affidavit.

Throughout her stay in Burlington, Peredo Carroll said her client received three small meals per day: a small cup of oatmeal in the morning, a couple spoonfuls of pasta for lunch and some sort of rice dish for dinner that she likened to "dog food." A small bottle of water came with each meal.

Sherman-Stokes also said her client in the Burlington facility was "not being fed appropriately." After 18 hours in ICE custody, she’d had a small cup of oatmeal and an apple, she said.
